Cake Dilemma

I'm planning an Escape Wedding and we're going to lunch right after the ceremony/photos. However, I have a problem with the cake thing at an Escape.

Normally I'm all for cake anytime, but I think it would be really odd to have cake and champagne BEFORE eating lunch, but I also don't see moving an entire cake from Boardwalk to Downtown Disney as an option either (I don't even want to think about what it would like after that!). Plus, since I'm paying a good chunk of change for lunch, I'd really hate for everyone to fill up on cake first!

The only thing I can think of is to have us do the cake cutting at SBP for the photo op, then having them put slices in cake favor boxes that we can give to our guests after lunch (we're serving dessert with lunch, so this would be more of send-off dessert). Would Disney do that for us? Does anyone have a better suggestion?

I was thinking the same thing but I think there is a bakery at Downtown Disney so I am going to see if they can have it made there so that someone at Raglan Road can pick it up for me. Or if that's too pricey, I'll send my brother! Then we'll just do a quick toast and mingle and do photos the rest of the time we are at SBP.

Our weddings are turning out to be very similar!!

I'm having my reception at Boardwalk convention center, and I was under the impression that my cake was just going straight there and not even making an appearance at SBP. Which I like better anyway

Not sure if this would help or not, but I'm having a Wishes Wedding and I'm providing personalized individual cake boxes for my guests to take cake home because I'm only expecting 20 people and my cake serves 40 (2 layers) and I'm also having an extra sheet layer that serves 20 because it was cheaper than having 3 layers and I couldn't give up one of my layers!

However, my reception is at the Living Seas and there's a kitchen where they can cut slices and box it up - I'm not sure if there would be an area where they could do this at Sea Breeze Point. But ask your planner because it might be able to be done!

I think, but not 100% sure, that you CAN do just the cake cutting photo op and then have the cake taken to where ever you're having lunch/dinner. I think you just need to coordinate that with your planner... HTH!

ask your coordinator for this solution:

Ask that the top tier of the Escape cake be presented at the reception, just for cake cutting, and the base tier (10" base tier would serve about 30) could be boxed ahead of time so you can take it with you. I believe your BEO states that any left over cake is the responsibility of the B/G, so some one can tote it with them to your dinner. Keep in mind that if your cake has a mousse filling, you may want to call your restaurant ahead of time to see if they will keep it refrigerated while you dine. By the time your reception is over, and including the time needed to get to your dinner site and dine relaxed, your cake will be out of refrigeration for a few hours.

If your cake has a butter cream filling, it will be fine without refrigeration for an extended period of time.
