So, we have adrs at Narcoossees, Artist Point, breakfast at Akershus. First night staying at Wilderness Lodge, last night AoA. (off property the rest).

We are celebrating 5 year wedding, 10 years together, our daughters 4th birthday, and my 37th birthday.

I've been obsessively researching cakes for delivery....

wanted our anniversary cake at Narcoossees for GF cakes.... but then thought, wait, would we be missing out on an amazing restaurant dessert for a pedestrian cake (pedestrian in it's a cake, not that the cake would be)?

same thought for artist point.... Cake Delivery from contemporary...missing out on amazing restaurant dessert?

I can have it delivered to wilderness lodge... but liked the idea of surprise at restaurant.

are there any desserts at the restaurants you think we would be seriously missing out on if we cake it up instead?

I would honestly stick with the restaurant dessert. Artist Point is amazing, and their desserts are incredible. I'd either have the cake delivered at your resort, or find another way to celebrate. :)

Well personally, I love cake more than most other desserts, so I'd have to vote for a cake. I also think the "surprise" factor when the cake comes to the table is a lot of fun. Not that may people even know that you can get a cake in Disney so usually all the tables around us are oohing and ahhing at the beautiful creations we've had delivered to our table. It just makes it feel very unique and special. You also have various options for cake and filling flavors and the ideas for designs are just about endless. So it doesn't have to be just a regular 'ole birthday cake.

it would be a mini tier cake in any instance...

if that changes the "wow" factor for you at all.

just 2 adults and our 4 year old.

would that change anything for you personally?

We had a cake delivered at Jiko for a birthday celebration. The surprise of getting a cake delivered at the table was priceless.

Having leftover cake to nibble on in the room the next couple of days was a bonus. :flower1:

You do have a lot to celebrate, so there is no right or wrong answer. Its just what you prefer.
Me, I love cake but honestly it would take more than a tiered cake to wow me though lol. I'd want to celebrate a different way.
As i said before, the desserts are pretty awesome at AP in particular.
Question, once your done with the cake, what will you do with it? After you going to a park after? Will you carry it with you? Throw it out? To me, it just seems like a waste of money. I'd rather get the desserts at the restaurants. But again, if this is something you think your family would love, then i'd go for it.

For me personally, I love cake. Cake for breakfast, cake for sadness, cake for celebrations, cake for Tuesdays, cake for rainy days, cake for new shoes, just CAKE my life to the fullest, please. :rotfl: That said, cake is something of a rarity for me. My SO doesn't even really like cake (pie guy), so it doesn't help that I'm usually on the hook for any birthday cakes we have. Just realized I haven't had cake this year

But for Disney, I feel the same conflict as you. It's always special and nice to have a birthday cake, especially if you're 4 -- and mini is a great size, too, since you'll (probably?) be trying other desserts around Disney World during your trip. You have so many occasions for celebration! And, as a pp says, the experience of a surprise cake in a restaurant is special.

My SO is also celebrating a birthday in Nov. during our trip and I go back and forth on the cake. (Plus, I like the double reason of celebrating "Welcome to Disney!" with a cake. Cake it up.) The cake thread just pulled me in with visions of beautifully crafted, special cakes

We're not even big on dessert, but the idea of getting a cake during the trip and then not really being in the mood to try desserts around Disney gives me hesitancy. That's not really an issue with mini cakes, though somebody brought up the good point that a mini or a 6" start at the same price, and depending on your design desires, the 6" is just as cheap as the mini -- which bumped me to the 6" category for consideration. (Also, we are staying at AKL, and their bakery doesn't do minis.)

Buuut... I think I'm leaning towards trying all the desserts, because there's just so much and I prowl the menus too much. :faint:

If you *don't* order a cake and go the variety-of-desserts route, ask the server for a candle when ordering dessert at each restaurant so you and little one can make wishes.

If I can enable you into making some ADRs in Magic Kingdom, have you taken a look at their specialty desserts? (http://disneytravelbabble.com/how-to/order-cake/magic-kingdom-specialty-desserts/) These can still be a "surprise" but they're not as big of a decision as a full cake.

Oh geez, did I write a journal entry on cake feelings or what? Let us know how you decide, and if you order a cake, post a picture in that cake thread! :thumbsup2

I haven't ordered a cake, but I've had the almond-crusted cheesecake at Narcoossee's, and it is not to be missed! :cloud9:

I would just go with the dessert at the restaurant. If you order a cake there is the issue of what do you do with the left overs, you are going to be moving around and will have to carry it around with you. You can order some special dessert at the restaurant that you wouldn't normally splurge on and they can always bring a cupcake with a candle for the little one.

The tiered Mini cake is good for about 2-3 people. I wouldn't expect any leftovers on that one.

@earfulofmagic love it!!!

lol

We have adrs at CRT, BOG lunch and dinner and plan on specialty desserts.

My daughter loves pretty cakes and I am a very amateur cake maker....so it would float her boat to get a pretty cake at a restaurant.

I think GF has the prettiest... scoured cake thread. was thinking of that for Narcoossees our anniversary.

Akershus for DD 4th. though breakfast and would be in park all day. hmmm.

Have the cake delivered to your room! The almond crusted cheesecake at Narcoosees is the best!

If it helps:

I've had specialty cakes ordered for birthdays to the restaurants twice...once a minnie cake to California grill and once a boardwalk custom to flying fish...

Both were good, both were fun...but at $50-$75 a piece...is something I couldn't really support strongly one way or another...if you are at one of the nicer restaurants, the dessert menus are often a better choice. Just my opinion.

Honestly, get the restaurant dessert, or if you want cake, get one from Amorette's at Disney Springs. You can custom order a character cake w flavours and mousse for the same price or cheaper than what you'd get delivered at the restaurant- you just have to go to DS to get it.
And the "delivery" cakes from the restaurants aren't really special- they just seem that way as it's Disney. They taste like grocery store cake, and I know they've been frozen because they forgot to thaw one we had completely.

This! That cheesecake is so tasty! That said, we had a min-tiered cake (vanilla with white chocolate filling) delivered to a restaurant at WDW. While it was tasty, the server didn't handle the whole thing well, so that was kind of a bummer. From now on, we will stick with the restaurant dessert, and just do the good ol' celebration pins you wear around the parks for whatever occasion we are celebrating. We got Anniversary pins last time when we checked into our hotel!
