Cake decorating classes?

Check with your local community college!

My wife took the entire Wilton series (She is now a certified cake decorator!)

It was under $200 for the entire series of 3 classes that lasted several months - one night a week. When one class ended - the next one started the next week.

I have taken the first 2 Wilton classes and they were great. The first one covers most of the basics like torting, frosting, borders, etc. The second one was mainly royal icing flowers. I am hoping to take the fondant class in March.

Check cakecentral.com, they have a lot of tutorials and recipes and there is always someone on the forums willing to help if you have a question. Youtube has lots of videos that walk you step by step also. As far as making cakes that taste good I really like the the cake doctors recipes. They are tweaked box mixes but all the ones I've tried have been fabulous. My favorite is the red velvet

As far as frosting I do not like the one in the Wilton Book. I recommend you do use it if you take the class on at least the first cake (so you have something to compare from) then try a few different recipes until you find one that you like.

Good luck and have fun!!
