Well its a dreary day in Louisiana and I’m not in the mood to get any more work done today so I thought I would start our pre-trip report. Now I’m sure many of you are thinking “are these ‘real’ Cajuns or just people from Louisiana” The answer is ½ of our party is a real Cajun. My husband is from down on the bayou and his parents had to learn English to go to school since French was the language spoken at home. With that being said I think I will dispel a few myths we always get asked about.

1.) Nope we don’t have a pet alligator in the back yard.
2.) Nope I don’t take a pirogue to work each day (been in one though….they are interesting).
3.) I hope I don’t talk funny but if I do please don’t say “man you don’t SOUND like you are from Louisiana.”
4.) Yes we all wear shoes here (WHY I get asked this one I have no idea)
5.) And Yes I can cook Cajun food but no it isn’t just spicy its seasoned..there IS a difference.

Now that this has been done on to this cruise and why we decided to take it. For the last 2 years I’ve been in grad school, just finished up in May and around that time I had a thought…..’since the whole family’s routine was affected by my attending school, why don’t I give a gift to them’ so I did….a vacation. DH and I sat and talked about it. At first we thought we would just take DS to Disney World but since he is 4 we crossed that idea off our list fast. We wanted something relaxing (and as much as I love WDW it is NOT relaxing) so a cruise came to mind, then it hit me…..the best of BOTH worlds…a Disney Cruise! Thus the search began for a 7 day option that would not be during the hottest part of the year, but would also not be to far into the school year since DS starts preschool this year. Then we found it….late September through early October, two yes TWO stops at Castaway Cay, and a category 07 stateroom we could afford….this is the one.

Now the real fun begins for planners such as myself. Do we plan a shore excursion or not (in our case not since my little man like to ‘shop’ we’ll just walk around the towns), Palo or no? (nope..missed out on ressies but that’s ok) to pre-tan or not…well….final decision was no – so when you see a very white lady by the pool promise me you won’t run away in horror. At this point clothes have been bought, fish extender is being made, FE gifts have been decided upon and just need to be ordered, Son is being prepped (he doesn’t want to go on the ‘big boat’ until he sees all the stuff he can do), and hubby is FINALLY getting excited. We are at T minus 7 weeks and 4 days and counting. This vacation can not arrive soon enough for us. I’ll post more as time permits and I think of interesting things but I at least wanted to get the ball rolling.

Awesome start from one Valerie to another. ;)

Congrats on your Masters!! :)

Another one! Great!
Can't wait to read more!:goodvibes

Great start Val... see ya in the Walt Suite!

Great start - really enjoying all the DD pre-trip reports. I agree - the time can't go quick enough!!

We live in Ponchatoula (Antiques Capital) but I'm from Robert area and DH is from Kaplan (south of Lafayette....I think its the only dry land south of there).

I am going on my first Disney Cruise as well..We go to WDW almost every yr and always wanted to do the cruise...got our chance to do and took it. I am from New Orleans, LA by way of St. Croix USVI (raised there) and St. Lucia(born there).

Gee who would have thought that in the midst of getting ready for our trip a Major hurricane blows in. Doesn't this storm know that I don't have time to deal with it? (at least we have 2 days off for Labor day now instead of just Monday)

Anyway, as we batten down hatches I've been sewing my Fish Extender (Nemo theme of course), pirate costumes are almost done, shopping for the cruise clothes is now completed. I think I'm everything is taken care of with the cruise (at least what I can manage for now).

The worry at this point currently is the fact that our documents have not arrived yet (I guess Disney figured if they sent them out now they would just float away int he hurricane). But they will get here when they get here.

I can honestly tell you though that this Dis'er will NOT be drinking hurricanes on teh cruise. Pina Colada yes, wine yes, hurricane...NO.

5.) And Yes I can cook Cajun food but no it isn’t just spicy its seasoned..there IS a difference.

Your title caught my eye so I had to pop in to take a look. I can't agree more with your item #5. I was born & raised in Morgan City, LA. All of my relatives were from "down 'da bayou in Lafourche Parish". We grew up eating well-seasoned food, not that hotter than he** food that everyone thinks is Cajun.

Lived in Slidell for a while & used go to Pontch. for the strawberry fest & antique shopping.

Anyway, have a great cruise. We don't get to go until May '09.

Angie

Looking forward to your report. Born and raised in Thibodaux (Chackbay actually), but now have been living out here in Vero Beach, FL (Saints used to train here ages ago) for over half my life. It has one advantage over Thibodaux - its real close to Port Canaveral.
