Part 1 – The Magic Begins

Cast: Me-the planner and commando
Chris – DS(10)
Suzanne - Family Friend
Andrew – Suzanne’s DS(10) (and Chris’ best friend)

We have prepared for this trip for two years. On our last trip together (2002), we rode the monorail, and when the boys saw the Polynesian, they decided that we should stay there on our next trip. Of course, since both of us are single mom’s that didn’t sound very feasible. As soon as we knew we could make another trip (scheduled for 2004), we went ahead and booked POFQ in early 2003. (This is where we stayed in 2002, and we loved this hotel.) Shortly after we booked, POFQ closed for rehab. We thought GREAT! Maybe we can get the Poly at a reduced rate since the hotel we booked was closed. This got us really looking into the Poly. Of course I scoured Tikiman’s site. I got hooked on the DIS boards, and read everything related to the Poly. Now I REALLY wanted to stay here….not only just stay at the Poly, but I had found the Concierge Lounge Threads, so now I wanted to stay Concierge Level (CL). Ok, we have time to plan this and budget this, and since we are going for 10 nights, we will have annual passes, so maybe with AP discounts and having to be moved from POFQ, we could actually do this! Visions of the Poly CL for $150 night danced in my head. Well, before our trip, POFQ re-opened, so no discounts there, but by this time we were set on the Poly. So Poly Garden view Concierge it was! The room was booked, AP’s purchased, Airline tickets purchased, we were ready to go. (Broke, but ready to go)

I don’t know why I feel like I have to pack everything (including the kitchen sink) on my Disney trip, but I do. My co-workers laughed at me when I said I was bringing four suitcases for two people for this trip. I managed to pack one of the smaller ones into a large one, so we only had three going down to Orlando. (But had the 4th one for souvenirs!). This made my coworkers happy.

We were up and moving at about 5:30-6:00 am on travel day. Larry (who, along with his two teenage daughters, will be joining us later during this trip) is taking the four of us to the airport. We get there in plenty of time to check all of our luggage. Our Counter rep for SWA is a huge Disney fan and proudly displays his Mickey watch, and other Disney gadgets (Plus does a pretty good Mickey imitation)! What a great way to start the trip. We head to our gate and Suzanne decides that she has enough time to have her nails done. So she stops to do that, & the boys & I head to the line at the gate. We are in Group A for boarding, and the boys want to sit next to each other, so we get in the A lineup (Those of you who have flown Southwest, know this cattle call drill, and those of you who haven’t tried this airline, well it is something you just have to experience for yourself). The plane arrives, and people disembark at Nashville, and there is no sign of Suzanne. I run (which is pretty funny considering I am a very fat short little woman) to tell her that the plane is boarding. She makes it there in time, and we are on our way. The flight was uneventful, and the Tiffany driver was waiting for us. We gathered our luggage and headed to the grocery store (Publix). We did a really quick grocery stop (didn’t need much) and headed to the Poly. When we pull up to the Poly a woman grabs our luggage out of the van, and tells us that she will put it in storage for us. I tell her that we are concierge guests, and to please check to see if our room is ready. She checks and tells us that we have a room assigned to us, but it is not ready. Then she proceeds to tell us that Matt will take us to the Hawaii building and leave our luggage in the room, and we can check in….all the time standing there with her hand out waiting for a tip. So needless to say we tipped her, then tipped the person that actually brought our luggage to our room.
