Cajun Christmas Adventure -Dining Report Updated 1/11

Subbing in. Your BoG lunch looks great. Looks like you are maximizing the dining plan already. Cant wait for more...

Kona Cafe
After a wonderful day at MK, we hoped on the monorail and checked out the decorations at the monorail resorts. I have to admit that I was very underwhelmed at the decorations at the Contemporary, but the Grand Floridian was so beautiful.
We finally made our way to Poly for our reservation at Kona. Kona is our first night traditions. We checked in a little early for our ADR and was told that we would be sat probably closer to our ADR time which was in 30 minutes. This was great because we made our way to the Tambu Lounge for a much awaited Pina Colava!!!! This drink is so delicious!!! We have actually recreated this drink at home. Even though it is very good at home, it seems to just taste a little better at Disney!!!! DH had a Yuengling draft. We live in a horrible state that doesn't sell this wonderful beer! :confused3 Why, I have no idea. It is very good, but not as good as my Pina Colava!!!
Right at our ADR time our pager went off. We were sat pretty much in the middle of the left side of the restaurant. Our server was very attentive and nice which was good since the last time we were there, our server was not. DH and I both ordered water because we were going to have coffee with dessert. DD and DS both ordered virgin strawberry daiquiris which was included on the dining plan. The bread and butter here is divine!!! It seemed better than I had remembered it so that was nice!!! We decided to pay OOP for some sushi. The whole family loves sushi. We ordered the Caterpillar Roll - Inside out Tuna Roll, Shrimp Salad Tempura Crunch topped with a layer of Avocado - $12.99 and Crab Rangoon Roll - Crab Salad rolled in Nori, Tempura Fried, and served with Fried Won Tons and Eel Sauce - $10.99. The Caterpillar roll was delicious!!! My favorite of the two. The crab rangoon roll was just ok. I am not a fan of crab salad. DH and DD loved it though. I will have to apologize for the lack of pictures of sushi. We apparently were starving!
For our entrees we all ordered
Grilled New York Strip - served with Roasted Fingerling Potatoes, Seasonal Vegetables and Molasses-Bacon Butter - $32.99

We ordered the Molasses-Bacon Butter on the side since we were not sure about it. We all also subbed the fingerling potatoes for mashed potatoes.
As much as I wanted to love this steak, none of us did. I really miss the terriyaki steak that was previously on their menu. DD's steak was very hard to cut and fatty. The mashed potatoes were really good.
For dessert, both DD and I ordered the Kilauea Torte - An explosion of warm liquid Chocolate inside Chocolate Volcano - $5.49

It was so rich and chocolaty!!!It paired well with my cup of coffee. I wish I could had ate it all, but we were so full!
DH was able to order the O'hana bread pudding for dessert. He said it was very good, but he was just too full to fully enjoy it.

DS ordered the Kona Cone. He gets it every time and loves it every time. He loves ice cream and cotton candy, so it is the perfect dessert for him!!!

We settled our bill and headed out to the Poly beach to watch Wishes. Once we finished up at Poly, we headed back to MK for our 7DMT fastpass. Loved the ride, just wished it was a little bit longer!!!

Your review of Kona is prefect timing. We are headed down next month and I was wondering how the sushi was. Now I'm sold on that and of course a piña colava!

I enjoyed your review. We ate here in 2012 and loved it. We're suppose to eat here again Easter week but I'm worried now. We really loved the terriyaki steak last time too. It was our favorite meal in 2012. I'll have to re look at the menu.
