I have recently switched my morning beverage from iced coffee to iced tea. I do need the caffeinated (not herbal) tea because I do need the "wake me up" effect" for the morning. It seems to wake me up just fine.

Is tea just as bad for you as coffee?

*PS: I'm not talking about "sweet tea" here (I'm from the Northeast!). I do not put sugar in my tea.

Tea has 1/2 the caffeine as coffee, and many studies have shown that both coffee and tea have health benefits.

Thanks! What are the health benefits of coffee?

I'm trying to decrease my caffeine intake. I tend to get horrendous physical PMS symptoms & lowering caffeine intake is supposed to help. I also feel like I have more energy and less of a "crash" with the tea, as opposed to the iced coffee I was drinking.

According to some of the latest research, coffee consumption can help prevent Parkinson's, reduce the risk of colon cancer and type II diabetes, as well as cirrhosis of the liver and gallstones. Plus, caffeine is widely used to treat headaches - many pain relievers (Excedrine, Anacin, etc) contain caffeine. And, it helps athletic performance too.

Many of those benefits are believed to be linked to the caffeine content of coffee, however.

Yeah, caffeine is not the criminal it has been presented as in the past.

coffee and tea are both great for you

aside from what sahddad said (all true), coffee (and tea) has more antioxidants than almost anything else you can consume ...

The same antioxidants as those in those fancy juice drinks that cost a mint :)
