Is Cafe Rix a counter service restaurant?

Yes, it's a counter svc., but really more of a grab & go type of place. Bakery type foods, prepackaged food & snacks & then they do have some hot foods sitting under heat lamps, but also make some as you order. There are also premade cold items & sandwiches, fruit in refrigerated cases. Beverage station as well. Also, have a counter there with gelato that many people rave about...haven't tried it yet myself.

Is there anyplace to take your purchase and sit down to eat it?

In the morning and early afternoon they open the side door between Cafe Rix and Rix Lounge (the nightclub) for seating. There aren't many tables in that section though.

There is outdoor seating with tables by the walkway, again not too many, and if the outdoor Laguna bar is not busy I've seen people grab a seat there too. There are a few large outdoor lounge chairs with small bar tables along the outside wall of the Maya grill, but the seating is more comfortable for drinking than eating.

Otherwise it's takeout to your room or the pools. It's really mostly grab-n-go.
