Café Mickey reopens with an Italian flavour

With Vapiano around the corner, and no characters....will it get the footfall??

I guess the environment might draw more people who are looking for an explicit Disney themed dining experience, although yes it does beg the question of why 2 Italian themed restaurants are needed in such close proximity :fish:

Likewise, never fancied it before, and more likely to give it a try now.

Looks good. It looks like you need to have a set menu again though, l'd prefer a la carte.

It does seem a little odd to have two Italian places so close to each other :confused3

When I heard the characters were being removed I just assumed it would have a complete make-over. I think most people went there for the characters rather than the food (although in all fairness we always enjoyed our meals there) and I think it would be better if it was completely re-themed.

What was it before Cafe Mickey? Was it Key West or something like that?

ETA: Just had a thought - I think I may have read somewhere that at Vapiano you have to queue for your food so not table service? If so I can understand that there could be a place for the two in such close proximity.

Years ago it was called LA Bar & Grill. We ate there a few times and they also hosted character breakfasts. It's where our DD had her first birthday! 1998 :goodvibes

Likewise, we only went there for the characters, but also never had any complaints about the food! Always good for us!

Vapiano - is that true? Off to look at their website..... hmmmm, it's not obvious but you CAN have takeaway as an option. So maybe there's where the queuing aspect came from...... Otherwise pictures look like table service to me.

I suppose is seems increasingly odder than normal because Vapiano has JUST opened. If it was in addition to an 'older' Italian establishment I don't think it would be quite so strange. Just seems not thought out! Ah well!

I must have misunderstood it then, I got the idea you had to queue to order your food which was then cooked to order - would be perfect if you have dietary issues.

Vapiano is quite common here in Germany. The way it works here is that you get a plastic card with a chip inside when you come in. Then you order food. For pasta and salads you wait while they make your food, for pizza you get a pager and go and get your pizza once it is done. Some drinks you get where you get the food, but there is also a bar with a larger drinks selection. Everytime you order something it is booked onto your card. When you leave, you give them your card and pay what is on it. It definitely is not a classic table service restaurant. But I find it quite comfortable and it is definitely set up so that you can sit for a little while and just get a coffee after your meal and maybe another glass of wine.

Of course they might adopt a different concept in France. Who knows...

I really like Vapiano. The pizza is pretty good and the salads are usually really good, too. I have never tried the pasta. It can be a bit chaotic with lots of people wanting to order and trying to find a place to sit. But my local one is in the middle of the shopping street and even on really busy days they seem to be able to move crowds quickly.
