Does anyone have one? Know how much space it has?

I´m still working on getting rental quotes for our trip which starts in 11 days!!!

Would the Escalade hold 6 people, luggage and a stroller (regular, not umbrella)?

My best friend has an Escalade. It is super-comfy and has lots of room.

But I doubt it would hold all the stuff you've mentioned...certainly not comfortably, anyway. I wouldn't want to be in ANY car with 6 people, plus luggage and a stroller.

Good luck on your hunt, though!! :)

Well, since I really don´t think we would be comfortable walking from NYC to Orlando (with a stop-over in Washington DC) either, I really need to find a car. :rotfl:

My best friend has an Escalade. While it is roomy I would never try to fit 6 people, luggage, and a stroller in it. I would definitely go for a larger vehicle.

It seems to be about the same size as my Ford Expedition. We just hauled 4 people, 4 large rolling suitcases, 2 garment bags, and 3 or 4 carry-ons. Our vehicle was pretty full. We could have fit more, but it would have been pushing it.

Any ideas where I will find a larger vehicle? This seems to be the biggest I can get for a one-way rental.

DH made reservations for a Chevy Uplander but I definately can´t see us fitting into that.

My mother had one and just got rid of it.

It could hold the 4 people and might hold all that you have mentioned or it can hold the 6 people with very little luggage.

2 in front
2 in the middle
3 in the back.

But the luggage area has NO room in it. It's awful!

You'd probably need something like a Chevy Suburban or a GMC Yukon XL (not just a Yukon). That will have two full back rows (seating for 7-8)plus quite a bit of trunk space. I think there's an extended size Escalade too.

Maybe a Chevy surburban would be bigger.

Six of us went to Hawaii and rented a Ford Explorer, which I would guess is smaller than an Escalade. I bought a soft, folding luggage rack. Folds up and fits in a carryon quite easily. We stowed three pieces of luggage on the roof and the rest inside. It had a foldout third seat so the skinny kid sat in the back with the luggage. After unloading the luggage we had plenty of room for sightseeing, with three rows of seats. I think I bought the Rubbermaid roof rack for about $32. Bring some bungie cords too.

You might want to look at a Full Size Van.

I guess it really does depend on how much luggage you have.

I have fit 6 people plus our luggage...1 midsize to largish bag per person, but no stroller...in the back of a Dodge Grand Caravan.

Now this was just to and from the airport that we were this packed and not from NYC to Orlando, so this may not be a valid point.

Just remember, when you rent a vehicle larger than an Explorer, many of the collision waiver "insurances" that come with credit card do not apply, perhaps necessitating the expensive, car rental insurance coverage.

I didn't know that. I wonder if the rental car places have turtle shells that you can rent also. That might help.

I´ve been wondering the same thing. I might just give them a call and ask.

In 2002, my family and my parents drove to WDW in my 1999 Chevy Suburban. 1999 was the last year before they restyled them and made them smaller. The thing was a beast, size wise and in fuel economy. We had 4 adults, two 5 year olds, enough luggage to scale Mt Everest and two coolers. It wasn't tight, but it wasn't all the room you would think it would be. The newer Escalades are much smaller in size.

I have traveled in a Escalade as a limo to the airport before and it was smaller than my former Suburban. With the size of your traveling group, trust me, go with the Suburban. You will thank me later. You still will be snug, but it tolerable.

The problem is, I haven´t been able to find a Suburban. There seems to be a very limited option of big vehicles to rent in NYC and drive one-way to Orlando.

How about a full size passenger van? My buddy rented one of those to take us to a ballgame years ago. It was a Ford Econoline Club wagon. Here's picture below and it's similar to what it was. Very roomy and comes with bench seats, if I remember correctly, 4 of them and plenty of room for luggage.

That is what I wanted originally but I haven´t been able to get it either.

Well your options are going from slim to none, it seems. Maybe see if the rental company will offer you the option of getting a luggage bag to carry most of the luggage on top.

I just found this for you and the rental company wouldn't have to know, if you didn't want them too, or if they had objections to putting anything on the roof. Here's the link below.

Do you HAVE to rent in NYC? Could you look at an outlying suburb or nearly airport rental place to see if there are other options?

It may be with only 11 days left, you have to take your choice of the slim pickin's that are available.

We started researchin in January, so it´s not like the choices are limited due to short notice. We even phoned some of the offices in the US hoping they could offer more than they had on their websites but no luck.

I´ve been looking at rentals from JFK airport and La Guardia.
