Cadbury Chocolate

Hello, I recently read that the Cadbury Chocolate that is produced and sold in the actual UK is a different and much better flavor than the one that is sold in most stores here in the US. How is the Cadbury chocolates that they sell in the UK shops??? Any chocoholics notice a difference, or, plan to go buy one to try the difference? I'd love to know. Thanks!

I am a Brit living in the US and I def think the british Cadburies is wayyy better..maybe just what Im used to I dont know..I think the Hershey/Canadian version you get in the states is a bit harsher..the Uk one is more like Belgian milk chocolate..much smoother and nicer! Just my opinion

Yes, the UK version is much better but prices at Epcot for it were insane. $4.00 for a flake bar! I just wait and stock up at Tesco when in the UK.

I wonder if the difference in the Cadbury chocolate has anything to do with corn syrup vs. Sugar - kinda like American coke vs Mexican coke...

Do you have an international grocery store or even Cost Plus World Market where you live? Both of those have chocolate imported from the UK, I always buy candy there for my British husband.

I'm not a huge sweets lover but I have to go to London a few times a year for work and always get the Cadbury bars there and think they are wonderful. I thought it was in my head because of the location. Glad to know I'm a little less crazy than I thought

Every time I go to Epcot I go to the UK Pavillikn and bring home a ton of Galaxy bars. You just let it melt in your mouth. It's so creamy and delicious, unlike any chocolate here in the US. I tried it in Ireland years ago and got hooked.

it's an opinion I share as a Yank. I first had 'real' Cadbury in Australia. since then I cannot stomach the stuff they sell here.

I will also commit questionable acts to get a Violet Crumble. (Luckily I can get Jammie Dodgers locally)

I'm now ruined thanks to cadbury and others. I can't look at a Hershey bar and even consider it food now. It tastes so.. Gritty and sour compared to imports.

when I lived in San Diego the store in Balboa Park by the cottages sold them. I would buy them out. sometimes I can find them in the shops when we go look for Kilt stuff.

Tim Tams and Mint Slices are also worthy of dubious activity.

I had no idea that there would be such a difference in taste! I am definitely going to get one when we next visit. Other than tea, I have not ever purchased any other food items from the UK shops there. Please let me know if I'm missing out on anything else.

Same thing with Nestle chocolate bars. The ones they sell in Europe (Nestle is a Swiss company) are far superior to what we get here.

Definitely notice a difference in taste and texture. Mostly in the aftertaste as well. Has anyone else noticed British Cadbury's have a hay or grass aftertaste? I swear I tasted it really strong. Even in their drinking chocolate. I'm wondering if it has to do with the milk they use. Maybe more free range or higher quality feed?

I love when my grandmum brings us chocolate back from England. Love the Buttons and flake and curly wurlys mmmm so good. The Cadbury's in Canada is close but still not as good. I find the chocolate in the US to be like wax.

British born now living in America and yes UK Cadbury is nothing like the American version. Personally, I find the American version repulsive in comparison. I don't know what they do to it over here but it's no where near the same and just kind of nasty.

The Cadbury sold in the UK in Epcot is the real stuff but it comes at a Disney price tag. You can usually find some UK Cadbury at Publix or other larger grocery chains. I highly recommend the Flake and Curly Whirly and Buttons.

if you are in to 'odd' choices, hit up Japan, too. their hard candy is pretty good, although since Pinky is no longer being made their mint section is a big bummer. Frisk just doesn't have the same bite.

don't knock the seaweed crackers. they aren't as bad as they sound heheheh

Its definitely different!

I really don't like American chocolate... it tastes much darker and artificially sweeter than British chocolate. No offence meant of course, I think I'm just used to British chocolate being a Brit and all!

Add me to the list who prefers Brit Cadbury. I recently discovered that my local Walmart (I'm in Canada) has a Brit food section (mostly candy). I pay the premium for the British version Cadbury bars... I love my Curly Wurlys!
