Last trip I found that we took many cabs to PS's or back to the hotel at night.

Reasons - running late, TOO HOT (August), tired..

Pretty well every trip was $20.00 (including tip) we went between the AKL and the GF 4 times. DTD to AKL twice and a few others as well.

I just found it really convenient not to have to leave so early or change buses etc to get to where I wanted to go - especially in the heat.

Does anyone else take cabs regularly? or am I weird?

All my PS's are booked now and I am looking to plan where/when to be certain places and how much time to allow for transportation - already I am thinking "CAB"

If that's the case, maybe you should look into renting a car. MUCH easier then cabs all the time, and transporation at your beck and call. It probably wouldn't be much more than all those cab fares, if not cheaper!!! If you already have transportation to/from the airport, you could always pick a car up on site or get it at the airport and use it as your transport.

Hi, there..

I don't drive - I have MS and my vision is impared - I am not able to have a license anymore.... a terror on the road :)

AAH, then I guess cabs are probably your best option, especially resort to resort. We usualy drive to/from resorts, it's the most efficient way, and if we didn't have a car, we'd definately cab it!!!! I couldn't imagine taking over an hour to get somewhere that most likely takes only 10 minutes direct!! I'm sorry to hear about your MS, but it seems like you're in good spirits!!

Personally, I would rather take a cab anyway. No worries about getting lost, whether or not you can "afford" that second glass of wine, etc. And at WDW, cabs are essentially at your beck-and-call anyway, it's not like here in sunny Dayton where you'd be waiting 30 minutes! ;)

Cass, have to agree with you. If we want an early PS for breakfast or want to enjoy that late night meal, we budget for the taxi. We find it much easier than renting a car and driving ourselves. Besides, I don't want to drive on vacation, I want to relax. :)

We took a cab from the boardwalk to ASMu one night & it only cost us $7.00....we tipped him $3.00....we were only in the cab like 7 minutes....this time we will definately take a cab to our character breakfast at Beach Club from CBR....I can't stand being late & you just can't count on the transportation to get you there on time unless you leave an hour ahead of time....especially if you have never been to the place you are going.....

We often take a cab back to our resort after dinner at another Disney resort restaurant. We have always used WDW transportation to get us to our dining spots (with the exception of V&A's - I was all dressed up and NOT riding a bus!), because we know to allow lots of extra time, and enjoy arriving much earlier to have a look around the resort and a drink at the bar before our meal.

I love walking out of the GF, AKL, CR, and having a cab ready and waiting for me! After a fantastic meal and good wine with dinner, I just want to get back to my room. We did the whole 'take the bus to DTD, then transfer to your resort' thing once, but it took well over an hour to get back to our room. That hour of time saved is well worth the $14-20 cab fare (including tip) in my opinion.

We never rent a car at WDW. DH owns a transportation company, and spends way too much time driving. I drive a lot for work also. When we are on vacation we like to relax, and really do not want to navigate roads, parking lots, etc. Plus, if we go out to dinner, we want to enjoy a drink and some wine with our dinner. I won't even drive if I have had one drink! DH agrees. The risks are too great, and life is too precious.

Nope--not weird at all. We do it somethimes even when we have a car so we can "imbibe" in adult libations without having to worry about when to stop :)

Haven't done it yet, but I'm intending on it this trip. There will be six of us (so two cabs), two seniors and two preschoolers, and me and DH. Staying at BWVs. We aren't doing a lot of resort meals, but have Boma booked, which we will take a couple of cabs back from there (to remains to be seen). And if the buses from BWV are bad and so crowded that the seniors will be standing (not good for either of them), we will pop them and the kids in a cab.

You do'nt need two cabs--they have minivan cabs and you can use one of those--same price :)

thanks, Anne, nice to know. Now the next question is will one be waiting, or do I have the front desk call?

Cass -
I know you posted your PS's plan a while back, but I don't remember where all you were eating.
My one thought is that at the BC you are in a very central location, bc/yc, boardwalk, EPCOT, MGM all very close and either a walk or boat ride away. At AKL you had to do it all by bus or cab.
You will have more transportation oprtions, of course even a short stroll can be hot and the boats are slooooow, but relaxing.
Certainly the cab is quicker and it is vacation so do whatever you have to be comfortable and not feel rushed.

The valet (not the front desk) will call them for you. Just be sure to let them now you need a minivan. If you call right as you are leaving your room it will probably be there when you get to the front entrance.

Hi everyone - thanx for the responses - I am glad others take cabs too :)

Tammy - I have to go to the Poly twice... once for 'Ohana and once for the Luau - there is no way I am walking through all of EPCOT to get on the monorail - I suppose we could take the bus to MK and then switch - it is just really nice to relax at the hotel and swim - not have to leave so early and grab a cab when we are ready - especially when it so hot.

I think for the most part we will be okay with Disney transportation or just walking :) We are doing quite a bit around the EPCOT area.

Your trip is coming up so soon - you must be so excited :)

For the Poly I would reccomend the cab.
While it is possible via Disney transport it is much less stressful to cab it.
Last year when we went to Chef Mickey's from BC we took the bus to MK and then transfered to the resort monarail. It was stressful worrying about our PS time. Live and learn!

Just a random thought - whenever I can take a boat to diiner I like to do that. Something about taking a boat to dinner really makes me feel like I am on the indulgent vacation. They are often slow though, you have to budget time. You could walk faster, but who wants to walk when you can ride a boat?

As far as excited - we are three weeks away and I'm ready ro pack:p !
We have a paper chain for the kids to remove a link from each day, I am the one who is first to think of it each day.

Just played Disney World Monopoly with the kids and here I am on the boards!!!:o Good to be a teacher and have summer off.;)

Dh and I rent a car for the first few days to shop and do other things off property but then we cab it, too! Much easier than dealing with parking, etc. DH has back and vascular problems so too much walking is difficult (he rents an ECV in the parks) so if we have a car, I drop him off, park...you get the drift...a big pain in the you know where!

Here's a tip....if you see a limo parked outside a DW property or park, approach the driver and see if he/she can take you. We usually offer $20-$25. Quite often they are waiting for a specific person who may be a while or they are just waiting for a fare like a cab. Quite a few times while staying at the Dolphin, we got free rides in their corporate limo...just by asking! We tipped of course, but the ride was free! It never hurts to ask. I got my first limo ride at DW that way!

I don't think you're weird for taking cabs .. but maybe that's because we do it too, for the same reasons! ;p Besides that, if we're going somewhere 'nicer' and have dressed accordingly, I really don't feel like traipsing on/off buses or the monorail.
