Hi! I know there have been several threads about people reducing their cable bills....but they're always comcast or some other company.

Just curious if anyone's had any luck reducing cablevision/optimum bills on Long Island. I just called and they were very unhelpful! My sister's friend (if she can be believed) called them & said her husband got laid off & they couldn't afford their bill. She claims she is now paying $100 a month for the triple play & gets more channels than we do! We have no movie or premium channels & still are paying $157/mth.

TIA!!

No luck here (Holbrook).
Plus they have taken away more channels if you don't have a cable box.

You may be able to call and threaten to switch to Fios to see if they will lower it, but be prepared to follow through if they don't.

I won't go to Fios because we want News12. So we are paying the same as you.

A friend of mine has Cablevision and I know he recently tried to get his bill lowered with no luck.

My friend tried calling cablevision customer service twice and requested a reduction and was told no both times.
She then switched to Fios.
She called a different number for cablevision, the disconnect dept., to cancel the service once FIOS was installed and they offered her a 50 reduction. She was annoyed that no one offered her that before. I guess if you talk to the right people, you may get it done.

I have direct tv, so I haven't tried.

our contract for the $100 triple play was up, and we got a letter saying it would be raised$ as of May 1... we called, and tried to get it lowered, but they were like "no" so we said what Verizon was offering, etc, and they were still unhelpful, so then they asked if we wanted to be switched to disconnection, and we said yes, and when we were on the line with them, thats when they offered to extend our $100 triple play offer another year!

Glad it's not just me! Guess I'll try going straight to the disconnect department and see what happens. My DH won't let me cancel cable. He "needs" his sports channels. :(

You need to get past the customer service rep and be connected to the disconnect rep. They are the ones that have the authority to offer you a better deal. Just tell the customer service rep you want to terminate your service and they will transfer you to the disconnect rep.

Be prepared... if you are going to bluff them by telling them you are switching to FIOS they are going to ask you for your work order number that FIOS is supposed to give you if you were really switching over.

So I would suggest that you schedule FIOS (you can always cancel) to get the work order number and then try and bluff Cablevision into dropping their price. It did work for us.

OK. My DH called, spoke to yet another rep saying no & finally got transferred to the disconnect dept. She said there was nothing they could do, blah blah blah. She went on & on about the Rewards Card and all that Cablevision has to offer. At one point she actually asked my husband if he really thought he wasn't get a good deal!! Ummm, NO!! He was on w/ her for quite a while, and I had to leave to pick up DD from pre-K. I thought he was done.

He called to tell me she finally gave him a choice...either same channels we have now for $135 (we have triple play) or we could have 1 premium channel for $143. We have no premium channels now, so he picked door #1. So, he saved about $20/mth w/ that call & the price will remain for 2 years. Not too bad...hoped for more, but I'll take it!

Thanks for all your help & advice on calling the disconnect dept! :goodvibes

I agree with the concept of having to get to the disconnect dept to get any sort of a discount... but if you have to threaten to go to Verizon or DirectTv, personally I'd just go. DirectTV has improved their service greatly in the past couple of years.. I only left them because at the time they didn't have on-demand things... now you can do it.

Cablevision and Verizon both have roughly the same costs when you measure everything out.. but if you can get FIOS, it's MUCH better than Cable. The picture is pristine the internet speeds don't fluctuate and the capacity is virtually unlimited, whereas Cablevisions speed is pretty much as high as they will ever get it unless they actually change their "all-fiber" network to actually being all fiber... I know most people will say big deal... the speed is good enough as it is... but when you think about it, most of us would have been thrilled with 128k speed a decade ago... 15mbs isn't going to be thrilling anyone in 3 years... and Fios currently runs at 50mbs... the price is crazy now.. but the point is they can upgrade it when they want without new equipment.

If Fios were available in the town of Brookhaven, I'd jump at it... Cablevision took away Kungfu HD ( admittedly it was their own network, so I wouldn't be able to get it elsewhere )which I loved, the menu's take forever to load and the picture doesn't come close to Fios...

Unless they offer me half the price of Fios when it is finally in my town, I wouldn't even think about sticking with Cablevision.

Yup..another ploy to get you to pay MORE money to get a box. Don't get me started on that whole thing!

How many people have lost MAJOR stations since yesterday????? Can they do this without lowering our monthly bills....off the top of my head we lost 23, 34 many station in the 40's and then I got disgusted and stopped looking.......

Here I thought my kids were losing their minds too....I just kept telling them that the Digital Conversion on June 12th had nothing to do with because we DO NOT have an antenna...we have cable....

Looks like cablevision is screwing with us........GOD I Hate Spending the Money to Put A Box On Every Television!!
