I have excellent 3G coverage everywhere at The Fort, I just tether my laptop to my cell phone and access via 3G. It's probably not as fast as cable but it is fast--fast enough to watch high quality
YouTube videos and fast enough to keep the most impatient person in the universe happy...not me (of course) ~grin~
I looked it up to make sure I wasn't just thinking it was pretty fast...it's actually faster than I thought!!
How fast is AT&T’s mobile broadband 3G network?
AT&T offers the nation’s fastest 3G network. 3G speeds for supported devices deliver:
Typical download speeds of 700 Kbps—1.7 Mbps
Typical upload speeds of 500 Kbps—1.2 Mbps
Dial-up modems are limited to a bitrate of less than 56 kbit/s (kilobits per second) ....
Although various minimum bandwidths have been used in definitions of broadband, ranging up from 256 kbit/s up to 1.0 Mbit/s........the United States FCC, as of 2008, defines broadband as anything above 768 kbit/s. The trend is to raise the threshold of the broadband definition as the marketplace rolls out faster services.
How fast is your Internet Service?
Knology offers up three different Internet speeds. Our download speed options vary from 256k to 8mb. (8mb is not available in all areas.)
Bellsouth DSL starts at 384kbit/s.
It's $15 a month for a 3G smart phone unlimited data package with AT&T.
If you have a pocket PC/PDA, it's $30 a month for unlimited data. I'm sure other providers have the same type of set up.
Just as a side note-when I don't have my laptop with me, I love
my Tilt and highly recommend it to anyone! You can get them half price on contract with AT&T
The slide out QWERTY keyboard makes it very easy to email, text, browse and the tilt screen makes it easy to watch movies. I also like that it also has wireless so I can access my router at home-or any other wireless router.
I kept my prior phone- Samsung Synch when I upgraded because I love that one too ~grin~
