Hi! I just wanted to post that taking the recommendations on this board my family and I visited Cable Beach on our Nassau day and had a great time! It was great to walk past all of the taxi hawks and just head to the right down the main drag to take the bus (Right next to the Haagan Daz store). It was $1/person, very easy and the driver was friendly and helpful. We had beautiful weather and just spent a few hours swimming and laying in the sand, building castles before returning by bus to the ship for free lunch. Then some of our party returned to shop downtown while the rest of us enjoyed the pools on board. It was very easy, very cheap ($2/person roundtrip!!) and we had a great time!

Thanks for the report lynnyl.... :flower1:

We're trying this on Monday... Your report is just what I needed to hear.

Glad to hear how easy it is to get a bus. Did you go to any of the Resorts on Cable Beach? Just wondering, because we plan on taking the bus to Wyndham Resort and using their pool and beach area. Only two months until our trip, we can't wait!!! :flower1:

We just walked through the resort's casino on our way to the beach. The resort pool looked like alot of fun, but being from MN, far from any shore, we were all about the saltwater and went straight to the beach!

Fantastic, thanks so much for the report! How long did it take for the bus ride and is it a scheduled stop at the Wyndam or did you ask to stop there?

I wasn't paying exact attention to the time, it may have been around 15 minutes, but honestly that's a guess. It was easy, we could see the hotel, but the driver was very nice and told us when we were coming to our stop, and one of the locals on the bus worked at the Radison and even helped usher us across the street to the hotel. I promise you this is an easy, cheap trip. The only time I felt at all uncertain was on the walk to the bus stop, thinking I may have missed it because its down a couple of blocks. Its not far, if you are on the main drag you will get there!

which resorts should you be looking for is it the radisson are you allowed to use the pool?

Hey Lynnly we're from MN too (Cambridge)! Not a very cold winter yet, hopefully it'll be colder when we leave in February.
Amy----We're planning on going to the Wyndham Resort. I hear that it's great. They have a slide at their pool and everything. And I want to play on their beach and maybe a few slots in the Casino too.

Lynnly do they have any shops at the Wyndham that you remember? I'd love to buy a Wyndham Resort T-shirt.

I saw the Wyndam pool and slide, they look great! I really didn't stop and look around the hotel, I had a couple of 4 year olds with me, but I would bet they do have shops in the hotel. Have fun, MN felt cold enough after the beautiful weather in the Bahamas!

Okay, pleading ignorance--I didn't pay attention the last time in Nassau as I wandered around a couple blocks before realizing that I was better off on-board than in that little downtown. I have seen other threads on taking the bus to the Wyndham, bringing a towel from the ship because the chairs are no charge at the Wyndham but the towels would have a fee. So, which one is the "main drag"? Is there a downtown Nassau diagram somewhere on the net, or a link to one from one of the other DCL-friendly sites? This method of spending the day at Cable Beach on our own and without incurring huge charges is my plan for DW, DS and me next month.

Thanks to anyone who points me in exactly the right direction, and happy holidays!

The "main drag" is called Bay Street which is the road you get to after walking off the ship and through the building to the city. It's the street that houses all the shops. I don't know of any map on the internet, but everyone will be heading that way when you get to Nassau.

Thanks for confirming Bay Street as where to catch the jitney. I have added Nassau to my weather.com listings on my MSN home page, to see the daily forecasts and temperatures and such. Down to 72 for a daytime high this coming Monday. My mid-January date for the Wonder is hit or miss in terms of swimming weather or just a nice pleasant day, but I knew that when I booked.

Lots of open space on the ship while in port, so there really is no downside as long as it isn't a thunderstorm. Oh wait, movies and room service and you don't have to go outside to get to the buffet...nope, no downside even if there is a thunderstorm.

I don't have the link for downtown nassau, but i just typed "map of downtown nassau bahamas" into google and hit "go", and there it is
