Cabins & FtW RV Rental Questions

We've camped at Ft. W., but never stayed in the cabins; will be there in Dec. Like the resorts, does the mousekeeping staff leave coffee & hot chocolate packets for use in the room coffee maker?

We'll have mugs, but just read that the earliest refill time is 7:30am at Trail's End. Amazingly, that's too late for my DH!! (I'll still be in bed though!). So he wants to know whether to pack his a.m. essentials!

Also, anyone have the name, phone #, & email of the guy who rents RVs & sets them up in FtW? Or, if there is more than 1 person, all of that info? Any idea of the price for these rental rvs? I realize I can get that by calling him, but just curious before I call. We would be in WDW from Sunday after Thanksgiving to middle of Dec. each year. Don't want this year, just thinking ahead for next year.

What about just renting a mini-motor home in the area - anyone have any info on that? Thinking we could pick it up, drive to FtW, set it up, take it down, & return it ourselves - if it is cheaper.

The cabins have a coffee maker and some coffee packages for it, if you want more just ask mousekeeping. They do not have hot chocolate packages. You can get hot chocolate at Trails End for refillable mugs.

Having stayed in the cabins a few times and if you really like your coffee in the a.m. or after dinner bring small coffee filters as well as your own coffee!they fit easily in plastic bags and easy to pack..It really makes for a happy camper if your like us.We also bring our own cocoa packets for the kids as well as cereal as we usually have 2 grandchildren w/us so its easy to have our morning meal there.We go on a budget!!! We Pack our lunches and water as well as snacks too. We do splurge and get ice cream at the parks!!!Sometimes pizza at the trails end on return from parks ! I know a lot of people get the dining plan but that does cost a little more..I'm not against it but can't afford it..Have fun..

Thanks for your replies & info. We will have just had 6 nites of the free DDP while staying at POFQ; then we go to the cabins for 4 nites. We usually have so much leftover food from the free DDP that it lasts us for several days - the last day we use leftover snack & QS credits for Starring Rolls sandwiches & cupcakes & POR make own pasta & magic cookie bars. So we will be eating cheap (as in lots of free!) in the cabins, plus we don't eat very much for several days because we are so full from the free DDP! - oink, oink!!!

sbnewhampshire1, why did you say "bring small coffee filters as well as your own coffee"? Are the coffee pots different from the other resorts - we didn't need to bring our own filters there? Is the coffee so bad that DH will need to bring his own - he drinks the coffee at POFQ?

Quick question, you mention small coffee filters. Are the coffee makers in the cabins the baby style that you see at so many hotels that only make one or two cups? Or are they more the standard type home coffee maker. Thanks!!

1. I have looked into it and I think it starts around $130 a night for just the camper so you have to add in the site fee.

2. Probably the most expensive since you are also renting a motor vehicle. People that have looked into buying locally and driving down experience some major sticker shock.

chartle, I agree. That is expensive - could stay in a Disney moderate resort for that, & close to price of a cabin! Thanks for the info.

sbnewhampshire1 - Just thought of this - seems strange that Disney would provide the coffee pot, but not the necessary filters! Also, when I told DH no hot chocolate in the cabins, he advised me that hot choc is also not offered in packets at POFQ. He always got the hot choc from the food court drink machine.

There are rental groups in the Kissimmee and Orlando area where you can rent a Class C (cab over type) and take it to the Fort. Camping World and CruiseAmerica are two I've seen at the Fort. Minimized the mileage costs.

By the time you rent the RV and pay for the site, it's probably cheaper than a cabin at the Fort but is approaching a moderate resort. But RVing is a lifestyle and vacation-style choice. If you love the outdoors I'd say try it.

I had pictures of some rental Class C's in my March trip report and saw many more while we were there so folks do it.

The coffee maker is a 4 cup and they also have a 10 cup. The provided coffee is the same packets that have coffee in them that they have at all the resorts which fits in the 4 cup coffee maker. If you want to bring your own coffee you will need to bring the regular cup type filters not the cone ones. They have a tea kettle in the cabins for hot water too.

He charges $599 per week and his campers are new. My daughter rented a camper for 2 weeks from Matt last month. It even included a free golf cart.

Thanks, thanks, thanks to everyone. I have gathered so much good info from your replies. I've already checked out the rv rental websites & documented all of the info - lots to choose from afterall!

We stay in a cabin this year; too late for camping site ressie. So, we definitely plan to try the rental trailer next year; much cheaper than a cabin! I agree that camping is a lifestyle & if one prefers the outdoors, there's no substitute! We full timed RV for about 6 years, but sold our TT years ago. Now that we are older, we just don't like the work involved to haul, set-up, & tear-down a rig - but still prefer that lifestyle. Looks like we have found a way, thanks to all of you.

Also thanks for the info on the coffee, tea pots, & hot chocolate. I'll pack some hot chocolate & DH said he will use the Disney resort coffee provided in the cabin. So all is a go on that important issue.

Just got back from a 9 night stay at the fort. We rented a 5th wheel RV from myrvhotel.com.
Their service was fantastic. They have 3 models to choose from. I believe their rates are $149 night.
Although my wife and I are Disney veterans, this was our 1st visit to the campgrounds. Our usual pet sitters were unavailable this year and so we thought it would be fun to bring our 2 Havanese dogs with us for a change. We soon realized that the only pet-friendly accommodations, on Disney property, were the campgrounds at Ft. Wilderness.
As some of the folks on this forum have mentioned, fort wilderness is fairly expansive and so we also opted to rent a cart from myrvhotel. This sure made getting around the campgrounds a lot easier (and was fun to boot)
I have been soaking up all kinds of useful information from the boards and podcasts for years and so if I can be of any help to folks considering an RV rental, I'd be glad to answer any questions you may have.
