We're headed to FW for the first week of June and are very excited - we even rented a golf cart! We picked the cabins for a couple of reasons: more space for a family of 5, my kids love to play outside, the ability to cook meals, and peace and quiet to decompress after a day in the parks. It seems like a dream resort for larger families, but I don't tend to read any wonderful reviews. I've heard transportation is hit or miss, which is why we rented the golf cart and the theming isn't Disnified enough.

What are your favorite things about cabins at FW? I almost can't see us anywhere else! Am I missing something? ;)

Pluses: The cabins are a nice layout and the inside is nicely themed and decorated. Lots of space to spread out and chill. I also loved the Trail's End restaurant and the Beach area. Ton's of activities to do from horse riding to the night time Bonfire and movie.

Minuses: The cabins seemed crowded together in amongst the trees with no grass to play in, just brambles and pinecones. The bus transportation was a bit of a hike to get anywhere. The murphy bed was not comfortable at all.

The murphy bed was not comfortable at all.

Was this the old murphy bed or the new pull out couch bed they are upgrading? I have not stayed since they started the refurbishments and wanted to check. I never slept on the murphy and my parents did not use it on the most recent trip so I was just curious if the pull out was uncomfortable or not.

With a golf cart, you will not have to worry about buses. I have always rented a golf cart, but when I have used the buses, I never had issues. As for space, the large decks are great for relaxing during the day. If you are wanting to play outside, there are areas of FW that have open spaces that you could play.

As a teen, my favorite thing about FW was that I could ride a bike around the resort, take the boat to the monorail resorts and explore. Plus, at that time, you could swim in the lake. On my last trip, I enjoyed getting up early and driving around FW while everything was still quiet and seeing what animals I could spot.

Each resort, including FW, has touches of Disney, but other than the All Stars, nothing really stands out as "Disney" themed to me.

We love it.

The cabin pool and hot tub are wonderful - surrounded by trees, peaceful, never crowded.

You will never hear a flushing toilet, a shower, or a footstep unless it belongs to your family. Until you've experienced that kind of quiet, you don't realize how much other people's noises invade your space.

That deck is wonderful for morning coffee, or any kind of decompression.

Fireworks and EWP on the beach, campfire show with Chip and Dale, nightly movies, daily activities ... all unique to the fort.

Love the boat to MK plus the small boat to Contemporary.

Most of the negative comments I think come from folks who are staying there out of necessity vs desire.

Love the cabins. We stayed there in 2012. We picked the cabins because I (grandma) went with my son and two teen grandsons. So it was either get two rooms or one cabin. It worked out great. My son had the bed and my grandsons the bunks. I took the Murphy bed which I found comfortable. It was nice to have separate space.
We stocked up on snacks, sandwich ingredients, and breakfast items. We saved money and time by having breakfast in the cabin and the boys could make sandwiches when we came back at night from the parks (always hungry teen boys).
We had a golf cart and it was worth every penny to us. Came in handy when we got to the boat dock the first day and realized we forgot a couple of important items. It's also a lot of fun.
Quiet and a large patio. Cabins would be perfect if they had a second bathroom or even a half bath.
My son never wants to stay anywhere else, but I like to try a new resort each time and I'm buying. Might go with the cabins again next year.

Yes, this was the old murphy bed that pulled down off the wall. I'm glad they are changing to the couches.

I probably should have sprung for the golf cart.

Large deck, charcoal grill, plenty of room, camping atmosphere...transportation is hit-or-miss, we ended up driving most of the time after day 2...as for theming, it is what you make of it. We took 3 boys and they had a blast. We were right across from one of the pools. Buy food off property...cost on-site is outrageous. You will have a blast.
