Cabins at FW

Has anyone ever stayed in these. Can you tell me why liked/disliked them, would you go back, any pics? Thanks in advance.

We love the cabins and would not stay anywhere else.There is more room,you have a full kitchen and no shared walls with any one else.It is very quiet and laid back and the cast members are wonderful. Check out this site for a lot of info and pictures www.allearsnet.com/acc/faq_fw.htm

We stayed in a cabin in January. There are six of us, but my dh was not there the entire time (it was partly a business trip for him.) We loved the campground, gorgeous! We loved that there was no one next to, over or under us, like having our own little house. The kitchen was great, we fixed one to two meals a day there. We did not like only having one bathroom (we have two teen girls!) We would stay there again, but we also enjoy trying lots of different options at WDW! Sorry, no pictures! We lost our camera at the P&P and never got it back!

The cabins are great . They are very relaxing after a big walking day in the parks. It was nice to do groceries and save money that way making our own meals. We would have a big breakfast, make lunches for dinner and bring it with us to the parks and we would have a late supper. When I came back to the cabins, I would just relax drinking a few beers (bought at the grocery store) . I loved the privacy...The people cleaning the cabin were so very nice and always left towels in nice shapes (there was a cute dog once) I wish I was there right now!!

Wife, kids and I are considering going there in Dec. We would be 3 adults, and 2 kids. Sleeping arrangements going to be ok? The campfire movie looks interesting. Can anyone give us some more feedback on the resort?

The cabin we had in May of 2005 had a pull down Murphy bed in the living room, and a full bed and a set of bunks in the bedroom...so 3 adults and 2 kids should be fine...I think there is a $5 per night additional charge for each additional adult beyond 2. The only downside is it takes longer to get to the parks b/c the cabins are pretty far from the buses/boat that take you to the parks, so you have a pretty lengthy hike, or wait for a bus. It is not a deal breaker for us, because the atmosphere is nice and worth a little extra time in transit, but it might annoy the real weekend warrior types who want to be in the parks ASAP.

The campfire program is pretty fun. A chuck wagon sells snacks, someone does a sing-along program and that is followed by a movie shown on a large screen outside. They post the movie schedule on a sticky at the top of this forum every night. Since you asked about the resort in general; there is a nice petting zoo with miniature horses and other critters, and a stable with larger horses and a working blacksmith. You can do pony-rides for little kids and there are trail rides for adults. You can also rent boats at the Marina, and bikes, etc. at the Outpost.

You can be there for park opening if you want. The best way to do this is to leave 60-90 min before opening and catch the bus to the Settlement stop. From there walk straight past Pioneer Hall to the boat dock, Mk boat should run 45min or so before opening. The boat to the CR however starts running at a bout 6:45am and you can walk from there. If you catch all the conections right you should be there in plenty of time.

Anyother park you would get to the proper bus stop(OUTPOST or SETTLEMENT) and catch a bus to the park, just like you would at most other resorts.

We spent a week in a cabin Oct 2004, and are going back this April. We are 2 adults, 2 kids.
We liked it because:
- You get a decent amount of space for the money compared to resort hotels and DVC villas.
- Having a kitchen means you can make your own breakfast/snacks saving time/money.
- It's peaceful and quiet, the kids loved the idea we had our own 'little house'.
- The boat to MK

Only downsides are the pools are quite old-fashioned, and you have to get the bus or rent a golf cart to get to the Settlement Trading Post.

We love the cabins too, but there is NOTHING more spacious than a DVC villa! We like the cabins for their coziness and quaintness, very rustic. The bedroom is small but you're only in there to sleep.

You can easily get to the parks before opening. It just takes a few minutes more.

The internal buses at Ft. Wilderness start running about 6am.

From the Settlement Depot the bus to the Studios starts running about 7am.

From the Marina, the boat to Contemporary and Wilderness Lodge starts running about 6:45 am (you can then walk to Magic Kingdom from the Contemporary)

From the Marina, the Boat to Magic Kingdom starts running about 1 hour before park opening.

From the Outpost bus stop the bus to Epcot starts running about 7am

From the Outpost bus stop the bus to Animal Kingdom starts running about 7am.

FW is my favorite place to stay. We've stayed at several different Disney resorts and the atmosphere at FW can't be beat. Trails End Restaurant is a must for dining. The waitstaff is the best and the food is good. My kids love it, so to me it's worth the money.
The cabins are so cozy. They have bunk beds and a full bed in the bedroom and a murphy bed in the front. Also in the closet is a porta crib. So really 8 could sleep in it is 1 slept on the sofa.
I like getting a golf cart for the convenience, the kids love spending a day at the campground riding around in it and renting boats.
