Cabins at FW~ hints for a fabulous stay

We will be staying at a cabin in Oct for the 1st time. Anyone out there that has stayed atthe cabins and has some advise??? Must have items???? Thanks everyone. Getting very excited!!

just returned from a stay at the cabins in my opinion the best place to stay, but anyway one thing to look for in the cabin on the shelf oposite the phone or may be with the phone is a bounceback offer it will be on a piece of paper read it my mom had one in her cabin and almost threw it out also if you are going to do laundry bring your own soap it is 2.00 to wash and 2.00 to dry and if you need soap its another 1.00 and dryer sheets also 1.00 for 1 sheet or may be 2 sheets better to bring your own, bring lots of quaters as the change machine by the pool hates older dollar bills, if you decide to do the campfire bring marshmellows as they are 4.25 a bag and make sure you use bug spray (we were in a rush and i forgot to use it needless to say we missed the movie ) bring coffee if you drink it as the stuff they supply yuck, what other things can I tell you hummmm just let me know if you have any questions ok have fun

I don't know the details of how you are getting there but if you have a car, stop at Walmart or Publix (more expensive but great food) and buy your groceries. We usually have breakfast and some dinners at the cabin plus snacks. As the previous poster said get your marshmallows too!!!! And ice cream. You can eat it on the deck. My son loves that!!If you don't have a car there are places that will deliver food for you. It will be cheaper then buying at the Fort. It is a rip off.

Next I would say get a golf cart, if you can afford one. It isn't necessary but it sure is fun. We love it.

If you plan to grill, buy a few utensils. The cabins doesn't have any. Or at least last year they didn't.

Things that we love to do at the Fort,
Watch the fire works and electric parade from the beach
riding the gold cart
pool (it isn't elaborate but it is still fun)
watching for wild animals (not Disney ones )

Thanks it helps alot Are there pots,pans, plates & utensils??? I will probably be making Kraft Mac & Cheese ( I know I know but its their fav and my go to if all else fails) so I hope there are pots. Are there grills??? I will be there on Halloween so I'll be bringing a big bag of candy to hand out.Thanks for your advise and help its really appreciated

Somewhere on this site you can search for the list of everything that is in the cabin. I can tell you from personal experience that the only thing we needed was the grilling stuff. The cabinets are stocked with pots, plates. big coffee pot, silver ware, and anything else you might need. Yes, there is a grill but you need to bring the coals. They will empty your grill after every use too. And do your dishes while you are at the parks!!!!!

You will love you time there!!! We wont go anywhere else for a while. I have a 4 year old and it is ideal for him.

Go to allearsnet.com and go to the FW page in the accommodations part and it will list what is in the kitchens. Having said that, the kitchen had everything we needed, except extra cups. There were only 6 glasses and 6 coffee cups - not enough for us. Just grab some silo cups when you go to the store.

The only other thing I would for sure point out is that there are places to unpack on either side of the Murphy bed. That will give you much more room for unpacking than just what is available in the bedroom. But, if you don't look for it, you might miss it.

You will have a GREAT trip! FW Cabins are now our favorite place to stay. Feel free to ask any further questions if you want.

I asked my son what his fav thing to do was...He said the rides and the boat to Disney.

We're stying at the cabins from 9/25-10/4. This will be our second time there.

I know I packed a double burner griddle($14 at target) very light weight and fit in our suitcase. Last time trying to make grilled cheese or french toast was a pain with round frying pans. I also bought at the $1 store a closet organizer thing, it's like four shelves and I can put some of the kids closes on it. Storage is pretty slim in the cabins. I bought rope lights for the deck and am bringing an outdoor timer, so I can have lights like the other REAL campers.

This is the first time we're getting a golf cart and I had asked on here how to keep it dry in case it rains. Many suggested the outdoor swing covers from WalMart $10, but I couldn't find them, so I'm bringing a shammy and putting it in a ziplock back and we'll use that. I didn't want to come back from say MK and have a wet seat.
I also got some battery powered lights to hang on the golf cart as well.

That's just some little stuff, also make sure you request what loop you'd like to be in as well.

Hi! It's been a few years since we stayed in the cabins, but I read on these boards about a few things that made our trip really great, and kept the cabin neat. We were there in December, there were 5 of us, and the cabins were ideal!!! I'll say this upfront, we are not park commandos, and spent lots of time soaking up the relaxation of FW!

I brought those 3M Command hooks, and put several of them on the wall by the door to hold our hats, lanyards, jackets, keys. Otherwise, everything ended up on the kitchen table and then onto the floor when we wanted to eat. We bought most of our groceries at the Trading Post, yes, a little more expensive, but I had been saving Disney Dollars for 2 years! And really convenient to stop by at night for the next day's stuff.

Definitely agree with the PP who mentioned the storage on either side of the Murphy bed, I brought those foldable fabric storage cubes (from target) and used those for my and DHs socks and underwear, and smaller clothes, and then just stacked the shirts and jeans. Plenty of storage in the bedroom for the kids' clothes.

Used an over-the-door shoe holder on the back of the bathroom door for the toiletries, yes there is counter space, but I hate the look of things piled everywhere.

Brought twinkle lights and a Christmas wreath for the door, made finding the cabin at night Super Easy! It's dark out there at night! I used the lights to wrap around our porch railing, remember an extension cord!

Also loved having a power strip, plugged it in by the phone, that was our charging station, no scrambling to find everything plugged in all over the place.

Had a great day at the pool, (yes, in December) kids swam while I did laundry.

Definitely do the campfire at least once, my kids say that is one of the highlights of the trip.

Golf carts are great if they fit the budget. We spent a few mornings zipping around the campground looking at the Christmas decorations.

The food and atmosphere at the Trail's End Buffet is great! We went there several evenings, and the attached bar, to enjoy a cocktail on the porch while the kids used the playground. Very relaxing on a cool night with an Irish coffee!!! Great CMs there, brought the kids coloring pages and hung the finished art work on the walls. You can do take-out on the food from the buffet, fill a few containers, and bring it back to the cabin. We bought two adult dinners, thinking the kids would just have PB&J, and we actually fed all 5 of us from the buffet containers!

And Now for my Best Tip!!! -- We also loved taking the boat to the MK. I had set up a breakfast ADR at the Crystal Palace at 8:00 a.m., which was before park opening at 9:00. We were on the boat at 7:35, no one else was around, it was slightly cold, which is better than hot to me any day, and we walked into an empty MK. Breakfast with Pooh and friends, out the door by 8:45 a.m., stood at the rope drop to Adventureland, and first ones on Splash Mountain that day. The kids got a Magical Moment certificate and free picture! Our favorite morning of the trip!

We have booked 2 cabin's for our family of 10 for Jan.2-9. This will be our 1st cabin stay, however we have stayed at FW in our camper many times.

Bring a pop up hamper for all your dirty clothes. It helped control the mess. The space is limited and the hamper helped alot. I wish I had thought of the 3M hooks. They can be used for wet pool towels, jackets, ponchos etc. Also I would bring 2 over the door shoe racks one for toiletries and one for shoes. They do pile up right next to the door. Oh and we pur most of our luggage under the kitchen bench. It fit there perfectly and was totally out of the way.
