How bad is transportation to and from parks from at cabins at fort wilderness? We r staying at art animation because I heard transportation is much more Efficient

It'a been many, many years since we stayed at the Ft. Wilderness Cabins, but one of our strongest and least happy memories is of the transportation. If you have a car, it's easier to drive yourself everywhere. To use Disney transportation, you need to take the internal bus to either the Settlement, to catch the boat to MK, Contemporary or Wilderness Lodge, or to the Outpost, where you catch a bus to the other parks or DS. Very time consuming!

So yes, transportation from AoA is much more efficient - one bus stop, where you'll find buses for all the parks as well as DS.

we did with a group of 6, 4 adults and 4 .5 year old and a 4 month old. granted it was 2 buses or 1 bus and boat ride but biggest problem was when we told older girl she couldn't ride a bus home. she loved the bus rides to her they were just another ride to be enjoyed. having a separate bedroom so girls could go to bed before adults plus full sized refrig with freezer were the winning points for us

If you can get a Cabin neat the front of the 2600, 2700, and 2800 loops it's not a bad walk to the Outpost. If we just missed a bus when staying in the 2800 loop we would walk to the Outpost and in every case would arrive before the bus would have gotten us there.

I compiled a list of distances for the Cabin loops in terms of how far from the Outpost, Cabin Pool, Meadows, and The Settlement here on the Camping Board:

We have stayed three times and rented a golf cart twice. Though not a necessity they can be nice to have so you don't have to wait for the internal buses.

It’s simple. Don’t do a cabin without a car.

I never select one resort over another because of the perception that bus transpiration is better at a certain resort. It's really not.

No but due to the size and layout of FW it takes a lot longer there than any other resort.

I wouldn't say any other resort. The CBR, CSR, POR and SSR are spread out and a couple have an internal bus system. Having driven all of them hundreds and hundreds of times, plus being a Guest at the Fort countless times, I never felt that the Fort's bus system was a deal breaker.

We tent camped at Fort Wilderness about 5 years ago, and had no issue getting to the parks on time in the morning. The intra-Fort buses ran pretty frequently in the early morning as they know people were heading to park opening. Then we'd take the pretty boat to MK, which is a lovely way to get there. We didn't have a golf cart or car, just built in a little extra time for transport like you would if staying at a big moderate. It was fine and we loved the resort. It has a lot to offer beyond the parks, btw.

from front of resort to back of resort is over a mile walk at Fort Wilderness if you would decide to walk. remember there are 3 resort bus runs not 1of the other resorts

I absolutely have!

Transportation is a bigger consideration than pools, restaurants, shopping, etc.

I've stayed at FW twice. The problem is 'internal' and then 'external' transportation.
First you wait on an internal bus, then you wait again on an external bus or boat (boat option requires a walking transfer to the marina too). I once stood so long waiting for an internal bus, that I changed our park plans while standing at the stop. We clearly were not going to make it to RD for EMH, so I changed our plans to a non-EMH park so we could make RD there.

Just take a look at the various resort maps to see how spread out they are, how far walks are to get to a bus stop from most rooms, and how many bus stops will be made before a bus even leaves the resort. Namely CBR or SSR. People complain that All Stars even sometimes shares busses, but at a max of 2 additional stops besides your own is a proverbial bargain in WDW transportation land.

Minnie Van is a great option at the cabins. The car will pick up right at your cabin.

What is this Minnie Van you speak of? I'm having a bit of a heart squish as I just realized there are no buses to the Parks :(

There are buses to/from the parks from Ft Wilderness. The fort is large, so there are also internal buses to get around the resort. You need to take an internal bus to the front of the resort and then get a bus to the parks.

If you use a Minnie Van (which you request from the Lyft app) it will pick you up at your cabin and drop you at the park entrance. Coming home it would pick up close to the park entrance and drop right at your cabin.

Oh boy :( I'm very worried. We have never stayed at the Cabins but have done hoop de doo review, so we thought they were walking distance to the 'settlement' We do not have a car. Should we look for another hotel? I'm mostly worried about coming back home after parks are closed and wandering in the woods looking for cabin...? Renting a golf cart is an option (I hope) but I'm worried about finding our way in the dark... Any information, or suggestions are GREATLY appreciated. (I have 3 days to cancel without penalty)

as I said earlier in this post we stayed 4 adults and 2 kids. older girl loved the bus rides esp the internal buses. the cabins are on loops so if you remember your cabin number you will have no trouble getting back to your loop in the dark. loops are paved drives walkable from bus stop. as you leave your cabin in the morning for the park just remember the color of bus route on the bus. last I knew purple, yellow or orange. you look for that color on your way to your cabin then listen for driver to call out your loop number. get off and walk to your cabin. only difference from MK boat dock is you walk from dock on the path to bus stop get on your color bus again listen for your loop number and walk to cabin. we love the campground and have done many trips with all ages of grandkids from 4 months to 15 years of age. if something happens and you are really lost just turn around and walk back to bus stop remember paved drive and ask next bus driver to call security for you but I do not see that happening

I wouldn’t worry. You’ll get the hang of it after the first day.
I’m just really worried as I am slightly disabled and I fatigue easily. My intention was to let dd(21) go off to park ahead of me, while I sit by pool, relax, then join her in the afternoon at my leisure is there a strategy? Should I notify Disney I’m disabled so they place me closer? Can they accommodate such a request?

What would you like to be placed closer to? A bus stop? The pool? You can put in requests, but they are not guaranteed. Disney also has a Disabilities Services department. I'd contact them to see what they can offer you. Will you have a scooter? That might be a good idea.

No scooter as I’m good for a mile or so but I want to pace myself 🌸

I’m looking ultimately close to main settlement, close to pool and bus stops would’ve IDEAL 💝 any idea how to get to disability departments prior to check in. It’s very difficult and frustrating to call long distance and be put on hold for 45 minutes etc. Ug
