Hi!

Did I read somewhere that these 4 Category 3 cabins are somewhat different from the other Category 3's? If you have stayed in one of these particular 4, I'd love to hear from you about this. Thanks!

Yes, these suites are 50% wider than the other Category 3's. And the Murphy bed is in the living room instead of in the master bedroom.

On our 2 cruises we stayed in 8530 and 8030 and both times we checked out the room next door (8532 and 8032). As Dave has mentioned these rooms are much wider than the other category 3 rooms. The verandahs are really big (I would estimate about 24 feet long) and the suites themselves are AMAZING. If you are in one of these midship category 3's then you are in for a real treat.

I'll let you know - we will be in 8032 on Sunday! We leave bright and early tomorrow for one night at Animal Kingdom Lodge than off to the Wonder on Sunday.

Hi!

Thanks for the replies. Yes, Mark, we want to hear all about it when you return! Have a great trip. And let us know what you think of the concierge service on the ship......

Hi Mark ºOº,

We have booked suite #8032 for my DD's HS graduation and 18th Birthday cruise on June 14th...

Please take lots of pictures and let us know what you think!!! I think we'll be in for a grand surprise... Can't wait to hear about your cruise.

I had family members in 8532 and 8534.

These cabins are adjoining; i.e., there's a door that connects each cabin to the other. The closet that's by the door to your cabin is reduced in size by this door; i.e., the other cat 3's (like 8546, our cabin; I really appreciated the bigger closet to store a car seat) have a bigger closet here.

These cabins have a triple wide veranda, and the pull down bed is in the sitting area. The sitting area is very spacious. You'll have a lot of room to move around.

The room has a lot of features that no one will show you. There are light switches for the lights on the veranda that you have to push aside curtains to find. The trash cans in the bathrooms are tiny (think the size of a big gulp cup) but there's a larger one under the wet bar. The plug in for the vanity is located on the wall behind it; you have to remove a drawer that has it's back cut away to access it. I would recommend bringing both a extension cord for using appliances at the vanity, and also a power strip for plugging in items such as cell phone chargers and laptop computers, if you travel with those items.

The cabin has 2 TVs and a VCR; and in the sitting room there's a CD player & receiver. The concierge has CDs and videotapes to borrow. We had a portable DVD player that DH plugged into the stereo with RCA plugs that we brought with us. Interesting story - prior to our cruise someone on these boards had a problem with the Magic's engineering staff in that no one could tell her what channel the TV needed to be on for the VCR to work; 3 people came to her room before someone figured out the TV has a 00 channel. This was in April 01. We cruised in July 01 and there was a sticker on the TV that said "use 00 for VCR". Remember that!

One amenity you should take advantage of is the expanded room service options. You can get hot breakfast, and any menu item from any restaurant. There were photocopies of all menus in our cabin on embarcation day.

One bathroom has just a shower, and the master bathroom has 2 sinks, a jacuzzi tub and a shower. You'll get toothbrushes & toothpaste + the usual amenities in the bathrooms. Beware of the step up into the bathrooms! Until you get accustomed to it you'll practically kill yourself stumbling up and down this step. In our cabin there was a hairdryer in one of the vanity drawers, but it wasn't plugged in properly & that's when I had to ask our steward what to do with it & he showed us how to take out the vanity drawer to use it. I've seen photos of cat 3 suites since then and there may be a different hair dryer in the master bathroom now.

Don't expect too much from the concierge. They'll deliver amenities to your cabin every day, like a fruit basket, chocolate covered strawberries, game cards for the arcade, etc. I understand there's more amenities for concierge guests now, like a dedicated check-in on embarcation day. Our concierge refused to tell me just how many square feet 8532 and 8534 were, and made a reservation for Palo at 10am when the brunch didn't open until 10:30. At the social on embarcation day they can make reservations for you, but they don't save time slots in the spa for concierge guests; if all the spots for a surrial bath are taken by the time the concierge gets to the spa after the meeting, then you don't get a surrial bath. I wouldn't rely on them, if you absolutly want a particular spa treatment or a particular time for Palo - just do it yourself. They absolutly won't make FRN reservations.

Even though the cabin is spacious I'd still bring the over-the-door shoe holder + a pop-up laundry hamper. You can keep both of these things in the walk in closet and it will organize everything that much better.

After I cruised I posted in my trip report that if you're willing to shell out the $$ for a cat 3 cabin and if you can't get a 32 or 34 cabin on the sail date you want then pick another sail date. These cabins are wonderful and if money is no object you'll have the time of your life! Hope this helps!

we stayed in 8534 in july and it's an absoultely gorgeous room...
with enough storage space to store your entire worldy goods...
ok..so maybe not that much but a LOT...
the only problem is at the end finding everything to re-pack....there are a million shelves all over the place to put stuff in...
and the walk-in closet is huge...
since we were traveling around the US for 6 weeks we had a ton of luggage and all of it fit into the walk-in closet...

the living room is slightly cramped when the beds are open at night, but since they close them again in the morning it's fine...

bottom line, on our next cruise, if i can't get one of the cat 1 or 2 staterooms, then i will certainly try to get one of these cat 3 staterooms...

I noticed the Offical Disney Crusie Line site has a 360º view of several areas throughout the ship. I believe the view of the "One Bedroom Suite with Verandah" is an interactive pictorial of the above stated rooms. It has an extended living area with three sliding doors that open onto the verandah. This suite looks absolutely wonderful. I'm hoping it's the same one that we have booked in June, #8032.

That IPIX caused me a lot of grief, because when we cruised I thought I was getting that suite! It isn't an accurate representation of their cat 3 cabins because only 4 of them look like that . . . there are 18 cat 3 cabins, four are handicapped accessible, four are like the room in the IPIX and the other 10 are like the cabin we had, 8546. I though we were getting a much bigger cabin, and packed accordingly. I couldn't believe it when we walked into our cabin on the first day of the cruise and DH said, this isn't what you expected, is it and I said no, it isn't. My mom was also disappointed; she booked the cruse with her TA and just said, I thought we were all getting the same room!

I wrote to DCL after our cruise and the angle of my letter was, how can you price these cabins the same . . . their reply was that they based the cat 3 cost on the amenities available, and since both cabins had concierge service, stereo equipment, jacuzzi tub, etc they felt the price was right. The didn't care how crowded our cabin was and how it paled in comparison to the 32 and 34 cabins. I think the 32 and 34 cabins should be their own category, IMHO.

We just got back from our stay in 8032 on the Wonder.

The room is beautiful! The verandah is hugh. I wish they would put a lounge chair out there since it certainly is long enough to accomodate one. The murphy bed is in the living room but we did not use it. Our kids (10 and 3) sleeped on the sofa bed which my 10yr old said was comfortable. Our bed was very soft so if you like a really firm matress you might be disappointed. The room had tons of storage space. We were afraid we would loose stuff because there was so much storage space.

Each morning we ordered a hot breakfast directly from room service. It was always delivered right on time and was nice and hot.

There is a concierge meeting from 1:00 to 3:00. You stop by anytime to book your reservations. We went about 1:15 and meet with Drazen, the concierge manager. He booked Palos and spa treatments for us. No problem getting the time we wanted. We then meet with Mandy from the kids club and she signed both kids up and gave us our beeper. Everything we needed to do was taken care of during our brief meeting.

As for noise, we did have some noise during the evening. 8032 is under the teen club, Common Grounds. Some nights between 9:00 and 11:30ish we would hear sporadic running above us. Also deck 10 extends a little past the verandah and there is a ping pong table directly over the verandah. We could hear noise from that occassionally. Normally the noise was gone by 11:30. We never had any problem with noise in the morning.

Let me know if you have any other specific questions.

We just got off the Magic, where we had room 8032. It was to die for!!

We brought a tape measure and actually measured out the entire suite, room by room. I will post these measurements under my trip report later this week. With the verandah, it was over the stated square footage that Disney gives you.

The verandah was a triple wide, and was just lovely.

We were more than pleased by the concierge, they were able to handle a few rather oddball requests for us.

I took a boatload of photo's of the stateroom, and I'll post them as soon as I can.

I can't wait to see your pictures Anne!

Mark ºOº and Anne...

Thanks for the info and can't wait to see the pics... We have booked #8032 on the Magic in June...

Glad to hear Concierge was so accommodating for both of you for what appears to be one stop shopping for ressies.

I had seen that common grounds was just above the suite but will have (2) - 17 y/o with me... So believe it would be just a straight shot for them up the stairs and back... one level...

Can't wait to read your reports and see the pics...

It's getting closer !!! Woo hoo...
