Cabinet/stand for flat screen TV?

I just spent $$$$ on a new 55" flat screen TV, and then realized that we're going to need a new TV stand/cabinet. With the cabinet I have now, the TV fits inside and the doors close (like an armoire). The new TV is much too large to fit in there. I'd like to find a budget solution that still looks nice.

I definitely want to hang the TV on the wall, mostly because of the risk of my toddler knocking it off a stand and hurting herself. I already bought the wall mount on a BF deal, so that part is taken care of. But, I still need some type of cabinet for the Tivo, DVD player, Wii, and VCR.

So...I have an image in my mind of the TV hanging on the wall, and a cabinet/shelf unit below it for the various accessories. But then won't I have ugly cables traveling up my wall? I just can't figure out how to do this so that it looks nice, and I don't spend a fortune.

Any suggestions? Pictures would be AWESOME. Thanks Budget Boarders! :thumbsup2

We got ours from Target and it looks expensive. Everyone says how much they like it and can't believe it came from Target. Look it up online.

You can buy cord covers. Leave them as is or paint them your wall color. Just google "tv wall cord covers".

I remember when we got our 50" Plasma back when not as many people had the flat screens yet. I found a nice console at Target for $299, but looks more costly than that. The TV is mounted on the wall and then there's a 1 1/2" cord cover going down the wall about 6 or 8 inches. The rest of the cords are hidden behind the console.

Make sure that you don't mount your TV too high on the wall. It's not a picture, it's a TV. That's a mistake that I've seen in many homes (TV's being too high on the wall). Sit on your couch or bed (whatever room the TV is in) and place the new one at eye level. If you do this, you should only have a few inches of cord cover going down the wall to the console.

Funny, same Exact situation as i'm in..

My husband went out on BF and got us a new 55" tv - not that we needed a new tv. Anyway - my wallunit is too small - its a nice wall unit - big and we are going to try and sell it on craigslist.

I also want now a low console type table - with some closed draws - i searched alot online - somegood prices but nothing i Love! think we'll go out next weekend looking - Pier one has a nice Black one - but i want white or dark brown - also try overstock!

good luck - post what u decide on

Thanks so much for the help everyone. I'm especially relieved to find out that the cord covers exist...I already found the set I want on Amazon.

I think I've figured out a solution, using the Ikea Expedit furniture (which I love the sleek look of, as well as the storage). I'm going to do a 4 cube x 2 cube unit in the middle, with the long size facing down. On either side of that, we're going to do a 5 cube x 1 cube unit. The TV will be hung in the middle, on a wall mount. The end result is going to look similar to this unit that I saw on the Overstock.com website. The 3 Expedit units will cost about $190 total, plus I'll buy some wicker basket to put in some of the cubes. I think I'm going to buy white furniture though, instead of the dark wood.

looks nice!

I think i'm gonna go with a piece from Raymour & Flannigan - The piece u show is way too open for me - i need some closed drawers!

I wanted white but too hard to find so i'm going with Espresso Brown!

I agree about needing some enclosed storage. I have LOTS of junk that I need to hide away. :) I'm going to get some of these baskets at Ikea that are designed to fit in the Expedit cubes.
