Greetings!

We will be a family of 6 on our next visit in September 2011. I'm going to book under the free dining code. I've always wanted to stay in a FW Cabin, so it looks like its time!

A few questions:

Is there a counter service in FW?

Is there a place for the refillable mugs?

Does FW have a pool?

Is there a preferred loop or area?

How is transportation to the parks? (we stayed at ASMo once and it took FOREVER to get anywhere. ICK!)

Thanks so much!

Is there a counter service in FW?

There is a snack bar by the pool that serves as CS during the day. Unfortunately no full-time CS. If you search Meadows Snack Bar someone has posted the menu.

Is there a place for the refillable mugs?

I know there's a drink station at Trails End - it's on the left as you walk in the main doors. Also I believe there are *some* beverages that you can refill at the Meadows Trading post, but I'm not 100% sure of that.

Does FW have a pool?

Yup. 2 in fact. The big main pool in kind of central, near the Meadows Trading post, movie, campfire, etc. That's the pool with the slide, jacuzzi and splash zone for the little ones. There's also a "quiet pool" near the cabin loops. It has a jacuzzi as well.

Is there a preferred loop or area?

Hmm... mostly depends on what you want to be near, although the cabins unfortunately aren't super close to the action. Still, internal transportation is good and all the cabins themselves are the same. You can see a map HERE. Cabins are 2100-2800 loops.

How is transportation to the parks?

Boat to MK leaves from the marina/Settlement area. Dock to dock it's 12 minutes. You can also catch a separate boat there that makes the loop between the Fort, WL and Contemp.

All other parks and DTD have buses that leave from the Outpost area. Internal buses will get you there.

Check out the FAQ sticky here for more great info and have a great trip! :goodvibes

we stayed at FW in the cabins in 2007 and loved it. i would recommend renting a golf cart for the week to get around inside the resort itself, it's pretty large. especially handy when you have little ones and are trying to get to the bus stops. :goodvibes

BradyBz12 has provided good answers to your questions.

I can add a bit to the refillable mug answer. . .

Here is everything you need to know about refillable mugs at Fort Wilderness:

Also, the search feature on the Disboards works really well. Try it out for your additional questions.

Have fun!

As luck would have it, there's an awesome TR running here now and it was just updated to include pictures of the menu at Meadow's Snack Bar, main pool and lots of other great pics. Check it out HERE.

You will LOVE the Fort!
We just got back from a stay in the cabins, and it was wonderful! I think it is entirely unique to anywhere else on the Disney property.

The internal busses are great - we had absolutely no problems getting around on them. Be sure to request a cabin near the bus stop. If you request loop 2100, there is a bus stop right across the street. Close enough to get there quickly, not so close to have a lot of noise.

You said party of 6 - you didn't say any ages. If you have several really little kids, you might think about a golf cart. Golf carts are fun and a luxury, but completely not necessary if you will be spending lots of time in the parks. We rented a GC for the one day we spent at the Fort and didn't go to parks. I would highly recommend that.

Will you have a car? I would recommend driving yourself to DHSif you have a car, but that's just me. There are 10 ways to get to Epcot from FW :rotfl: and the boat to MK is awesome. Can't speak for AK - we didn't go over there.

We did not do the dining plan, but did notice the "to-go" menu at Trail's End had some mention of it. I might still have it somewhere around here...

Hello, Just got back today and I can tell you that as far as counter service you can get a 2 pc chick dinner and side for a counter service after 4:30p the guy at the counter said that I could also get a nacho's, chicken wings, and one other thing. Also you could get a pizza for 2 counter service's. Also catching the internal bus from the 2100 loop was super easy. Have a blast. PS these were at the Trails end rest at the settlement. Never went to the meadows snack bar so can't say on that one.

The cabins are very nice. That is where my family would stay when we would go to Disney. It was nice because while still on property it was more secluded than a hotel. We would also stop at a local grocery so we could pick up some food to have on hand it was really convenient. Have a great time!

Had we not stayed at the FW cabins 2 years ago, I don't think my DH would have ever gone back to WDW. We stayed at the Contemporary 5 years ago and, while VERY nice, ( dare I say it):scared1: it was too much Disney for us-there I said it....;) It seemed so busy. We Loved, Loved, Loved the cabins and FW. While the extra space was wonderful, I have to say the peace and quiet of relaxing on the deck "out in the woods" after a long day of Mouse chasing was really what sealed the deal. We also prefered having the full kitchen and grill, which I was not sure of because I did not want to cook on vacation, but those sweet little mousekeepers not only did our dishes but cleaned our grill every morning....DH thought that was pretty cool. I realized it was not the cooking but the cleaning I did not want to do on vacation! :thumbsup2
Aw man, I have got to plan another trip!

Totally awesome thread--thanks for linking! Just might have to break down and get us one of those mugs... Too bad they stopped with the resort logos. I've got a Poly and wish I had gotten in on the FWs....

You're going to LOVE the cabins. It's really like a home away from home :)
