My family is considering staying at FW in a cabin. We are a family of 5 and usually camp in a tent but it's a long drive from CT to FL so we'll fly so no tent.
I was wondering where the cabins are located? Also, we won't have a car so how is the transportation from FW to the parks? One more question, I saw all the photos of golf carts, can you rent one, if so how much?

Thanks,

Transportation is fine, we have a vehicle but always use Disney buses and a boat to Mk. There are internal buses running every few minutes to the Settlement and Outpost for buses to the parks Etc. By the way, there are many people on this site who Fly and bring their camping equipment with them.

Disney also rents tents.

I'll look into this, but camping gear for 5 is still a lot to lugg onto a plane.

Anyone ever rent a cabin? Are they located all in one area or throughout FW?

Click on the "sticky" at the top of the first page, the one that says Ft Wilderness map, you will see the loops of cabins sort of towards the bottom, they are all located together.

Oh and :welcome: to our little community.

Thanks, the map helps a lot. There seems so much to do at the FW, I really hope we are able to stay there. :thumbsup2

Thanks for the welcome also!:flower3:

It looks like you could spends a couple of days just hanging around FW and not even go to the parks!

We've stayed in a cabin...they are great...and perfect size for a family of 5! Very pricey IMHO, but well worth the cost. With 5, you might want to consider the MYW Dining plan also.

The purple bus route was just changed on Jan 23 to now go past the Meadows trading post, swimming pool and campfire. The internal buses are on a 11 minuet schedule so you have a very short wait. The park buses are about every 20 minuets. We always stay in a cabin and do not rent a golf cart and have no trouble with transportation. The cabins are wonderful all the benefits of home except you have mousekeeping,no bed making or doing dishes. Go to www.allearsnet.com and look up Fort Wilderness for some great info on the cabins and the Fort, including pictures also check out the"stickies at the top of this forum. You will love the cabins. Have a great trip.

We stayed at the cabins last July and want to go back NOW!!!!!!!!!!!

We were on the dining plan, and honestly, that was just tooo much food, and we didnt like having to plan around reservations for which table service restaurant we had that day.

My husband was so bummed that he couldnt grill out one night---not that he COULDN'T, but that he couldnt because we had too much food prepaid on the meal plan.

We plan on going back this July without the meal plan.

My oldest daughter (17) told me the other day that she didnt think she would want to stay anywhere else but the FORT while at Disney....they had that much fun there!

you're right actually....we felt like the days were planned around eating too.....but, man, did we eat!!!!! and eat, and eat!!!!! And STILL went home with some snack credits!!!! Our first fort visit was this past Dec....I dont see us ever staying at any other location when in the Orlando area again. We're going back in late May without doing any Disney parks, we WILL spend a couple of days at Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure....but will have several "hanging out at the fort and doing some actual camping" days this time just so we can take advantage of some of the great stuff the fort has to do!!!

Yes, when we go back, I plan on leaving at least 3 days without any real plans--just to relax and enjoy the FORT.
That and riding the carts around......almost more fun than any ride in Disney...hehe....

Some people spend months just hanging around the Fort...lol. There is a lot to do, you definitely can keep busy. From canoes to fishing to fireworks to playgrounds to arcades to pools to golf carts to etc..., you won't be just sitting around long ;)

We stayed at the cabins last May with our family of 5 and just loved them. I don't know how we could go back to a regular hotel!

I have photos in my trip report link in my signature if you would like to see and/or read more cabin details.

Great, I'll check it out.

Also, I just booked my family in the cabins for Thanksgiving week.:cool1:
Only 9 months to plan our trip!

Thanks to the helpful people on the disboards.:flower3:

Thanks,

We absolutely loved the cabins! Really DELUXE accomodations and plenty of space for everyone. You won't be 'roughing-it' here. If I could change one thing though -- to save $$$ -- I would not have bought the the Dining Plan package while staying in the cabin. We hardly used the kitchen accomodations.

The golf cart came in handy as our cabin was a LONG distance from the ferry boat to Magic Kingdom (which I highly recommend -- comes every 20 minutes). I guess you can take the bus there as well.

The bus transportation to other parks -- not so good -- My oldest daughter who "slept in" and met us at Hollywood Studios had to wait for a long time for a bus.

I loved looking at your pics and reading your trip report. We are staying there in June and you gave so much helpful information.

We are celebrating my 50th birthday at WDW in a cabin at FW, a new Disney experience for my family. Because my birthday is the same week as Thanksgiving, we thought a cabin would be cozy and rustic.

OK ~ here is my question ~ I thought I read :surfweb: somewhere on these threads that there is a local grocery store that accepts food orders and will deliver the groceries to FW. We are flying into MCO and using Magical Express, therefore we do not have a rental car. Can someone refresh my memory?

Many thanks :flower3:

Apparently there are several that deliver...but the one I know of is named Garden Grocer.
