Cabin on Deck 5 - too many children around?

We're contemplating a cabin request for our Sept 2005 cruise. Looking at the 5th deck. On our last cruise (with DS 16) there was a remarkable absence of children 12 and under, until a CM told me they were all having fun either on the 5th deck or in the children's pool. So to our happy surprise the ship wasn't overrun with children scurrying about.

However, how about deck 5? Are the hallways there filled with kids running about, or do they stay in their respective program rooms?

We've stayed on Deck 5 and never once felt that the deck was overrun with children.

yep, same here!!

We loved our location on the 5th floor! It is very Isolated and QUIET! Shhhh! I think it's a secret. I worried too about the kids clubs from the map, (being our 1st cruise) but the way it is set up, you do not go by there, and they do not go by the cabin area's unless (there in those cabins) ;) . I am seriously thinking about changing our cabin assingment to this area again for march 2005. ::yes::

We also loved Deck 5 aft. So much so, that we booked the same room for our next cruise.

A couple of times we did see the 3-5 age group going from their club to the back stairs to go up to Topsiders to eat. But it wasn't a problem, the CM's had them in a nice straight line.

We were on deck 5 aft in March this year. Never saw a single soul in the corridoors..............except at drill! Nat:Pinkbounc

We were on Deck 5 Forward and chose it because of it's proximity to the kids club for our own small kids. We might as well have been alone there, we hardly saw anyone at all (and the ship was 95% full) let alone kids running around. For those we did see it was mainly families like us entering/leaving their staterooms. Next trip is on Deck 7 and we're going to miss Deck 5 (though I'm sure we'll find things to really like about Deck 7).

Have a great cruise!! :boat:

Does anyone know if the Cat. 11s on Deck 5 can hold 4 people? We also love Deck 5 and have been able to get the SPR for our last cruise and our upcoming cruise, but in the future, if we can't get it, we were wondering about staying in the Cat. 11 rooms (but we have 4 in our family).

Thanks!

According to a TA guidebook I have from 1999, no, they do not. The only cat 11's that I can see that "sleep 4" are on deck 6.

Deck 5 is the BEST!!!! I am a fanatic about having a stateroom in a quiet area with no hallway traffic, and I love deck 5 aft. My favorite stateroom is 5650, which is as far back as you can go. You'd never even know the kids clubs are on the same deck.

I do occasionally see the kids being transported somewhere in a line, but that is part of the charm of my favorite deck. The CMs use sometimes hilarious games and other means to keep them in an orderly line! It never fails to crack me up. You won't see them a lot, but I always feel dissapointed if I don't see "child transport" at least once during a 3-day cruise.

westjones,
Yes, some do anyway. We are a family of 4 and stayed in Rm 5513 - Category 11, which is one of the "sideways" rooms near the SPRs. We liked the layout of the room a lot, felt like an All Star room.

Thanks! That is good to know! We may go for one of those if we can book onboard (hoping the 2006 dates come out soon).

I apologize for my incorrect information about "sleep 4" cat 11's on deck 5. My TA guidebook is definitely incorrect then because it clearly didn't list room 5513 as a "sleep 4". I'm glad to hear there are some though ! Good luck Westjones

Which sailing will you be on? We are going 9/18/05 and will be on deck 5. We have 2 kids so I was kind of excited about the proximity of the kids clubs. We also got lucky enough to get an SPR, so I am just thrilled to be on deck 5. We have started a roll call on the cruise meets thread if you are on our sailing.

We are staying in 5009 and 5010 in January '05. Both of these rooms, one cat. 11 and one cat. 8, sleep four. I am excited to be on this deck. There are very few cabins in the forward where we are so it should be quiet. I'll let you know...

Never have cruised before, so here is my dumb question of the day.

I will be booking cat 11 or 12, what deck are these cat's on.

thanks Brooke

We've been on deck 7 in a verandah room and on deck 5 in a cat 8 and we loved deck 5. So close to the kids programs and the halls to the rooms are short and it never felt over run with children.

Ah, yes, add us to the list of "Fab Five Fans" - loved it!

You would never know the kids clubs are there. It was quite a peaceful deck.

I'm glad to hear all of this, too. We're going to be on Deck 5 aft in a Cat. 7 (5634 I think). It's our first time on Deck 5 and our first verandah. We've always been inside before. I've never been past the entrance to the kids' club on Deck 5! I can't wait!
