Tents are not allowed at the cabins. I'd go with renting an RV or something, but make sure you have a sand pad for the tent. Or if you really want the luxury, see if you could get a cabin at the end of the loop, and have the kids in a tent in the 2200. (you use the same bus stop). At 40$ a night for a partial hook-up, it's really not a bad idea. Just make sure you put one adult on the kids site when you book it. Once you're there, I don't think it really matter. As long as you trust your kids to be by themselve. I've never been scared staying there, and it's just me and Kari all the time.
I'm sure when people get adjoining rooms, kids are more than likely in one by themselves so the adults can have a quieter night sleep in the other.
I'm sure there's benefit to having both... kids can stay up later and not be bother by you. You'll have the luxury of your own bathroom. And you can all have breakfast together in the morning. Just think, the kids will get up when the sun gets up.
