I was just wondering if anyone has recently had any charges on your Cabela's Club Visa account that they know they didn't make. My husband just had a charge of $2200 on his that he didn't make. They said that the card was swiped which is absolutely impossible.

Actually very possible. What probably happened is he used the card for something and while it was being processed, the clerk swiped it through a reader. The info was used to make a duplicate fake card.

Cancel and dispute, you can't be held liable.

I wonder if that bought some really cool stuff?

We have a new Cabella's around here and it's HUGE!!!! Very neat place but they certainly don't have the best prices.

The card is through Cabela's and the charges were made at a different store. It looks like it was at a pet store in Miami Fl. We live in PA - there is no way he was in Florida. They are going to send us a copy of the signature in 30 days. And they of course canceled the card.

Had my debit card number stolen a couple of months ago. Same thing & the charges were in Clearwater, Florida. I live in Missouri.

They just key in the number they don't need to swipe it.

We had a charge on dh visa a few months back from Australia. I called the card company and they said it was for an accounting company in Aus. Why would we need an accounting co. in Aus. It was taken off the charge.

Another story...

About 10 years ago I ordered a music box for a friend from the San Fransico Music Box Company over the phone using my visa. The next month there was the music box charge and a charge for over $200 for a gas station in Oakland CA. I live in Michigan but Oakland is across the bay from San Fransico where the music box company is located. The security for my card company said someone at the company stole my number and charged tires at a gas station. More than likely the way the scam worked is they knew someone who worked at the gas station. That is how they were able to charge it.

Yep it was happening with debit cards also people were putting card readers into the slots of ATM's and usint the info gathered to make duplicate debit cards and drain peoples bank accounts.

I have been the victim of Visa fraud twice and Visa immediately cancelled the card and I didn't have to pay anything to them. My DH had an American Express card for travel expenses only and that number was also used by someone else. It must be a huge problem for all credit card companies.
