Cabanas vs Dining Room for dinner

Why pick one over the other?
Some people want a quicker in-and-out process. Others find Cabanas quieter than the MDRs. While others like the MDRs more.

Personally, while I've been planning (for several trips) to do Cabanas for dinner one night, I'm not tired of the MDRs.

It's a moot point, currently. I understand that Cabanas is currently not open for dinner.

We have only eaten at cabanas once for dinner in all our cruises. Our first cruise, we were at a table with 2 other couples. After a couple of nights, we needed a break from them so we went to cabanas. We tried palo the next night as the food at cabanas was just ok.

We're traveling with extended family with small kids these days so we're at the main seating - and it is SO noisy. I HATE it but they're new to Disney cruising so we have to do all the dining rooms with them at least once. If it was just us I would love to go if Cabanas offered a dinner buffet! (We've done the dining rooms enough.)

We only did Cabanas once for dinner. It wasn't quick at all. People had raved about the steak but we found it to be mediocre. We waited forever for one of the side dishes to appear, sorry can't remember which one. The only things we remember about the side dish was the long wait and it wasn't very good. I would rather grab a sandwich and a slice of pizza if available.

Cabanas has less ambiance than the MDRs. We typically cruise in winter when it's dark in the evenings during our preferred dinner time (2nd seating), so there would also be nothing to see out of the big windows. I've never been tempted to have a full-service dinner there. The times we've chosen to skip the MDR, we've just gotten food from the pool deck or room service.

DH and I love cabanas on the classic ships. We can’t speak for the Dream or the Fantasy. The food comes out fresher and hotter than the main dining room entrées. DH prefers the cabanas dinner over any of the main dining rooms. Since we don’t like eating in Lumieres we always choose that night to eat in cabanas

We did Cabanas once for dinner, only because our PA returned late and we missed our MDR first seating and didn’t want to wait for second seating.

The waitstaff in Cabanas seemed like they were very much the “B-team,” compared to what you get in the MDR. They were very nice and were trying very hard, so you were really rooting for them, but there were a noticeable number of kinks they needed to work out before they’d be ready for the Big Show.

Actually, the servers in Cabanas for dinner are trainees. It's quite possible that some of them were not up to DCL standards - yet.

I was just on a B2B on the Dream and right now Cabanas is not open for dinner, so depending on your cruise maybe you will have a choice then. I love the late dining in the MDR so it doesn’t interrupt my day, but sometimes I would do Cabanas on Pirate Night right when dining opened, so I would have room for the buffet they would set up after the fireworks. Now with Covid they’ve changed everything 😢 Hopeguwell get back to normal one day

We eat dinner at Cabanas on pirate night because we severely dislike the pirate menu. A bonus is that Cabanas also serves food hotter than the MDRs.
Unfortunately, at the moment Cabanas isn't open for dinner.

MDR only and Late Seating only. 41 year cruiser here. I expect dinner to be a a leisurely affair. That is part of the cruise experience. But my first cruise had just one seating for dinner, 6 pm, 12 courses and lasted every night until 9:30 pm. On DCL we never were out of the dining room before 10:30 pm

Does Cabanas have its own menu? I thought is was things from the Main Dining Rooms.

The Cabanas menu is a mixture of the standard MDR menus. For example, I've always been able to order the black truffle Pasta Purseittes at Cabanas on pirate night.
