On our last cruise I was a little let down by what Cabanas had to offer at both lunch and breakfast. Selection was fine, but the quality was off. I know a lot of people love it, so what are the things you look forward to at the buffet?

We like the unlimited shrimp & crab. If you do not like seafood or have an allergy, that might not appeal. Overall, I enjoy eating in the dining rooms that are open for breakfast & lunch. The buffet can get a little crazy.

Breakfast. Musli. Extra craisins & almond slices. This is one thing I really look forward to having every cruise.

Now that I know the Fruit soups from lunch is available by the yorgurt's at the back of the buffett, I may have to go there for breakfast

I love the oatmeal, its so yummy. I cannot make it that good at home.
I was disappointed on our Magic cruise last week, I did not find my favorite hash brown patties. I looked everyday and never saw them.

Whoa! Are you saying that yesterday's leftover fruit soup is on the breakfast buffet the next day, or that the fruit soup being served at lunch in the MDR today is also on the buffet today? (Either way, I'm pretty happy...)

I like the omelettes, hash browns, beef hash, link sausage, heck pretty much all of it. We love eating on the outside aft deck at Cabanas. We did do lunch at Royal Palace once and it was good. We're crusing on Monday and are going to try Royal Palace for breakfast one day just to try it. I've heard the Mickey Waffles are fresher in the MDR but supposedly you can ask for fresh ones at Cabanas.

I kind of agree about breakfast. It wasn't that exciting, at least compared to other meals later in the day. I never really found anything that exciting. I wanted to like the non-traditional eggs benedicts, but they were never that exciting once I actually tasted them.

We did enjoy lunch a lot more. My dad loved any of the German things they had the most (the schnitzels, etc). Anything Asian was my preference. I had a stuffed zucchini that was tasty one day too. And I know this is sacrilege, but I actually liked some of the little desserts in the case there better than my Palo desserts. My dad, 11yo and I were all big fans of the "pudding" scoop-able cake-y things (chocolate, etc.) that are conveniently located next to the scooped ice cream. Dulce de leche ice cream on those = so good!

I saw at 2 different ones at breakfast

Agreed. That's the first thing we hit after we board.

There's a dense chocolate pudding called Chocolate Marquis that seems to always be on the embarkation day buffet - OMG, it is sooo good! Thick, and super-chocolatey... yum! it just left oks like a boring dark chocolate pudding, but it is so much more!!!

Honestly I can't say that I "look forward" to anything at Cabanas. I think it's perfectly fine for breakfast. There is a nice variety of things and the quality is probably slightly better than your average free hotel buffet. But to say I look forward to anything is a stretch. As for lunch, meh. We really aren't buffet people anyway, so probably not the best to ask, but I think it's pretty bad. Lots of variety, yes, but the quality is not great. We greatly prefer the MDR for lunch or even the pool side options. I enjoy the shwarma on the Magic (and I think on the Wonder now??), the chicken fingers on all the ships, and the fruit, salads and sandwiches from Daisy's Delights. I think they are as good or better than anything I've had on the buffet and you avoid the crazy to boot!

At breakfast I love the smoked salmon - but I was disappointed to see that on our last cruise it's behind a glass meaning you have to ask for it. Couple of times I felt like I was stealing it asking for 3 pcs and the CM putting it on the plate seemed bothered to have to do it. Side note, but I would actually have to say that was one of the only times we have experienced poor "Disney" service on the cruise.
At lunch I often went into Cabanas by myself just to have some sushi. Family would eat by the pool and couldn't be bothered.
It's funny I love Cabanas but other than those 2 items nothing really stands out for me... hmm
Oh maybe the peel and eat shrimp as well.

Oh, and the chocolate chip cookies, which we always stock up on at lunch time for snacking later!

We seemed to like the buffets on the Magic better than the Fantasy. We like the food overall better on the smaller ships. Question : I recall, at least on the Magic, they would tell you in the Navigator what "theme " the buffet would be, e.g. Seafood, Italian, Steakhouse, TexMex). Do they still do this? Is it just on the classic ships?

My favourites were the Eggs Benedict, the omelets, the hash, and the sushi.

I had a similar experience this last cruise at the Vista Cafe. The woman tried to tell us the snacks were only free when you purchased coffee, which is not true. I even found it on the DCL website where it said they are complimentary.
