They probably won't ever include Cabana Bay in the express benefit right? Just wondering being it's a mid range can't imagine they would. For express pass in general is it valid for both check in and check out days? I'm thinking of taking one night to eleverage the benefit and want to figure out maybe buy it outright for one day

Yes, you do get the express pass for check-in and check-out day. So If you stay only one night, you get two days worth.

They will also let you check in early (though the room will not be available). We drove all night, got there at 7AM, checked in, got express passes and went to parks. Got a text from the front desk when rooms were ready around 1PM.

You may want to double check when you book. I've read multiple times on disboards that cabana bay will not offer express pass

Yep. It's on the Loews hotels website too. No EP for cabana bay.

But in general, for the deluxe universal resorts, wookie is correct.

Since wookiebeck spoke of having checked in, he/she must have missed that you are speaking of the yet to open, first Universal Value hotel, Cabana Bay Beach Resort (opening in 2014). As the first "value", it will lack several of the ammenities included with the other three Universal hotels. Specifically, you will not have:
  • Priority Seating at select Restaurants throughout the resort
  • Complimentary Water Taxis
  • SKIP THE REGULAR LINE FOR FREE with Universal ExpressSM Unlimited* ride access

*this info is from Universal's own website: https://www.universalorlando.com/Hotels/On-site-Hotels-Comparison.aspx

Wookie probably just meant Portofino Bay, not Cabana Bay.

Only early admission for Cabana Bay...no express passes.

I don't see them ever offering the express pass to guests of Cabana Bay.The resort is too large and too many more rooms to add to the benefit.Given its price point ( well below the other 3 deluxe properties) , it would cause bookings at the other 3 to drop off.

if staying at cabana bay for $100 a night, why would anyone stay at the 3 main onsite hotels for express line perk?

can't see that happening for CBay to have the ep perk.

Maybe offering a limited EP- like one time use per ride?

if Cbay went that route, i'm sure a charge would apply.
the darkside already has that type of pass that is available to anyone to purchase.

Sorry, somehow I forgot that suggestions are only good if you make them. You'd have thought I'd have that ingrained in me by now with all the times you've "educated" me

I doubt it, but you never know..Even offering a limited version of it would likely cause buisness at the deluxe resorts to drp off.Plus, Cabana Bay is going to be a HUGE resort,In order to keep the express line moving they would likely have to limit the ones they sell to make it work, I don't see them doing that.Especially since at peak times they sell those passes for $$$.At least for the forseeable future , Loews has made it quite clear the express pass perk would NOT be available to guests at Cabana BAy

Cut that educating out right now!!!! :scared1:

I doubt very much that Cabana Bay will see any sort of express pass. I can see Universal stopping the early admission perk to partner hotels too to try to encourage people to stay at Cabana Bay and not at a neighbouring hotel.

This.

I'm honestly expecting Universal to start phasing out the partner hotel program. Between the capacity and price point gained by the Cabana Bay hotel, as well as stated (on earnings calls) comments regarding how they should have a few more "onsite" hotels, I'm fulling Expecting Universal, under Comcast's ownership, to continue moving into the self-contained resort experience with less reliance and advertising of non-Universal properties.

I also see the Wet & Wild property transactions from a little while ago, as well as potentially some more deals that have yet to be made or to have gone public, to be part of this strategy.

i see it that way too.

they have the partner hotels packages in order to get more money and guests into the parks.

with Cbay, no need to continue the entire partner hotel program as it is now.

I welcome hearing different viewpoints before I make up my mind on anything. I try not to take anything to heart & consider the source unless it gets personal here...that said I'm more of a realist:

IMO Universal is looking to churn some $$$ hoping CB's guests purchase the EPs on their 2nd park day, if they find their experience isn't quite as they had expected...let's call it an amazing upsell opportunity.

In that vein, they might offer a small, discounted multi-day version or on-site resort guest discount, but they need to tread very lightly in order to not upset the balance of what I suspect is a high quota of repeat guests who currently fill the existing onsite resorts.

Just hope they do actually limit the # of EPs they sell on any given day or the delicate balance will be upset & there will indeed be minion mayhem in the parks.

Cabana Bay offers early entry but not Express Pass. You have to stay at one of the 3 Deluxe resorts to get the Express Pass.
