I'm just curious-What airlines have people had the best luck with? We have gone to DW three times-Delta (1) and United (2). On our next trip, I'm worried about delays and cancellations because it's in Nov-Dec. (2002)
I'm just doing the research now and want peoples experiences. I'm leaning toward Delta!!

American Airlines is poised for a strike July 4th It may not happen at all according to CNN, but there is a chance if labor and management does not come to an agreement. Delta has pretty much cooled down (I think) so, I would probably go with the airline that's not in the news right now.

does it matter to you if its non stop or a connecting or a direct flight? (direct means makes one or more stops but no change of planes involved) try usair or continental.

There really aren't any direct flights from my city. I would have to go to SFO or LA for a direct flight. We want to leave from SJC (San Jose) flying red eye on Thanksgiving night. (Thursday night-Friday morning).

I have used Delta twice (1 from SFO and 1 from LAX). And basically I chose those because of cost and convenience. They had the most flights and the cheapest. I live near Sacramento and am flying to LA the night before to leave LAX to MCO. Even flying from Sac to LAX and then LAX to MCO is still cheaper than any other. Plus LAX has nonstop.

I reread your post....hey, we're leaving on Thanksgiving Day too...We're staying at PO Riverside!

Having flown this route more times than I am willing to admit in public, here are my opinions of the carriers I have used, in order from "Best" to "Worst":

American - San Jose use to be (and to some extent still is) a mini-hub for AA. Because of this, they are located in the "newer" Terminal A. The best connections are in the morning, when they connect through Dallas-Ft Worth or Los Angeles (with Non-Stop LAX-MCO). However, the evening flights seem to be limited to connections through Chicago (ORD) or Boston (BOS), neither of which have the best reputation during the winter months.

United - This would be my favorite except they are located in the older Terminal C and all boarding is outdoors and up stair ramp to the planes. Choices are SJC-LAX-MCO and SJC-ORD-MCO again, plus another route that can connect through Washigton-Dulles (IAD - another wintertime question mark). Morning flights take you though their Denver hub.

Delta - Only flew Delta once and don't remember anything good or bad. Another Terminal C /outdoor boarder but the connections through Atlanta (ATL) look like the best for what you need: good conncting cities at red-eye hours.

TWA - I flew TWA for the first and LAST time this Easter. They had a decent fare through Lowestfares.com so I thought I'd give them a try. Big Mistake! They were going through a Bankruptcy and negotiating a buy-out by American. Service was terrible. THere was no Curbside Baggage in San Jose and very slow skycaps in Orlando. Check-in was the slowest I've ever encountered in my life. And the food service was horrible, meals were frozen by the refrigeration system, but they handed them out anyway (YUCK!).

Sorry about the length. All said and done, your first choice of Delta is probably the way to go for your red-eye schedule.

Thanks everyone!

Steve, you're probably right. My mom goes with us and is terrified of connecting anywhere we might have bad weather. (Pretty difficult in the winter!!)

I thought the Atlanta connection sounded best for a redeye. Not sure about what Georgia weather is like that time of year??!!

Greetings fellow Hwy.4 survivor. My route of choice is Oakland to Orlando via Los Angeles. There is a United Shuttle out of Oakland at about 8:00pm that gets into LAX about 9:20pm. United flight 92 then leaves out of LAX direct to Orlando at about 10:30pm and gets into Orlando about 6:00am. I believe you can get a United Shuttle flight out of San Jose that will allow you to connect with 92 also. Have a great trip and see you on Hwy.4.

We pay $200 R/T on Southwest from here. My sister is meeting us this month, and she got $238 on Delta, with a stopover here. So, basically, she is paying $38 R/T from SFO to LAS, and the same $200 we are to MCO!

I thought she got a great deal!
