CA Shows in July?

OK, now I’m really upset 😡

Just read that they are canceling Dr. Strange show at CA at end of June. What????? Supposedly due to the new contract for union entertainment. So that got me curious 👀 and I started checking calendars for my July visit…and there are no shows scheduled! No Spidey, no Avengers Assemble, noDance Off, NOTHING. The only thing listed under Atmosphere Entertainment is Citizens of BuenaVista Street and Club Pixar. Well, we already know what happened to that, not that it’s anything I’m interested in.

Anybody know someone who works in the parks that has info to share? I realize that they are probably keeping information pretty tight but if one side of the park is closed and I have no superheroes to hang with, I may as well stay home.

Maybe they don’t publish the schedule a month in advance🤷‍♀️…but seriously, this would really impact my day and they may as well close Avengers Campus, as without any shows, there really isn’t much there and it breaks my heart to say that.

Will this new contract affect all characters? No princesses to talk to…no hugs from Genie? I may never meet KyloRen now…😢

Somebody help!

ADDED: So I just spent last 20 minutes catching up on this…didn’t realize the union vote just happened three weeks ago. It’s probably going to take a while for this all to shake out since it affects all stage and parade performers, and characters. So maybe there might be a shortage in characters for awhile? But for those who are trained in stunt work, and fora magician like Dr Strange, I can’t believe they’d work for the wage it said most are paid, in range of $25/hour. Our In’N’Out pays that much!

The daily shows don’t usually get posted that far out unless they usually are once the park hours are posted, but I know a lot usually don’t get posted right away. Dapper Dans are big ones for us to see, and our trip next week just got showtimes for the week of 6/16-6/22. This may be the case, though I’ve seen the same for Dr. Strange, I wouldn’t think that the other shows are also going.

I’m sad because I did enjoy the show and thought he had fun interaction with the crowd even if it was a little cheesy.

I could have sworn that many of the character actors in the parks were already in a union, so I just find all this speculation that these cancellations are caused by a new group of character actors unionizing to be interesting. I was thinking maybe Disney is trying to re-evaluate what live shows they offer, or the frequency, and these cancellations are temporary as they tweak things, but I have no insider info so I could be totally off-base :-)

Nope, they weren’t unionized before, although almost every other type of employee at the park is…I thought it was weird, too. They will be called”Magic United” and be part of Actors Equity.

ADDED: This just occurred on May 29, after vote was certified.

GOTG dance show hasn't runt the last times ive gone...wonder if thats gone for now as well

I wouldn't read much into the July schedule not yet being posted. The daily entertainment like small shows is often not posted very far in advance. They usually only post things like fireworks, WOC, Fantasmic really far in advance.

I think they are scaling back live entertainment where they can (just my observation). Looks like they got rid of the piano player at Golden Horseshoe too. Makes me sad...it's nice to have a break in between rides to do something other than shopping or eating.

Well…that makes me sad too because I haven’t been in there for ages and then @DizMe was talking about so I was going to make a point of it this trip. Sad faces all around.

I don't believe there was a union for character actors before. It has been big news here in LA, but it made its way to national news as well.

Well, just changed my airfare, hotel and park reservations to mid-June just so I can see Dr. Strange before he gets banished to the purgatory where all good Disney entertainment goes when cast aside.

Was going to upgrade my MK while there in July but seriously rethinking that now. Need to see how things shake out over next couple months. I think that union thing has execs flipping out though I can’t for the life of me figure out why, they deal with unions all the time at WDW, they should be able to do same at DL.

This scheduling change just means one thing…I have got to get my outfits done a whole lot sooner than I planned :rotfl2:

When I saw the post title I thought it said "Cat shows in July" and I was all excited.

Anyway...That's such a drag that they're getting rid of so many of the shows, or even postponing them for a while. I love all the live music/shows and interactions in the park. They're so much fun and really special. Once the Bayou Brass Band called me up to dance with them on my birthday :)

I still miss Billy Hill!

Seeing more posts about Dr Strange not making it past the end of the month is definitely making it seem real. So sad for all of them. Glad to be catching them one more trip but wish it wasn’t happening at all. It’s feeling very WDW to be losing entertainment.

Someone used to keep a website about the cats at Disneyland, but last I checked it hadn't been updated in years. :cat:
There is an Instagram page called Disneylandcats. There another called DucksofDisneyland. I think there is one for birds as well but I don't follow it.

You know what I can’t figure out? Every time I’ve seen Dr. Strange (and that’s many, many times as you all know what a Marvel freak I am), it has been crowded. People lining up beforehand, people standing at the doorway, watching from outside. It’s not like it wasn’t a viable show. Go figure 🤷‍♀️

Maybe they are going to put a Wong show in its place…that’ll really confuse most people.🤣😂

Yes, Dr. Strange is always so popular! It's always so crowded I can barely see him. Last time I went by Thor was with him. (In April)
