Grandma loves Disney, but she's afraid of planes, tunnels, boats, trains, cars, buses, cities, small towns & being away from home. It's amazing she's survived!
OK so we arrived last Sunday (it's Saturday now -- everyone is wiped out & napping, so starting the trip report while we're here). We weren't realy sure the Magical Express would get the luggage here -- that did actually work.
We are staying @ SSR. A few comments about that. We are new to DVC & we're west coasters. We now live in WY, but we are still APers for D-Land. SSR is larger than DL & DCA combined. DVC did a very dumb thing by forcing (I say forcing because that was NOT disclosed up front) us to use our developer points @ SSR -- it's just not a good match. We are used to Disney being very cozy. SSR has some good qualities, but cozy just isn't it. It's massive & the bus system is downright unfriendy for the first few days. By the time we figured it out, we were mad. Even when we did figure it out it took forever to get anywhere. SSR is pretty, but we like palm trees. And we are in the Carousel which is a million miles from the pool. So, next Florida trip will either be BLT (aka the sandwich, Animal Kingdom or Poly).
Day 1) Got off the plane -- got way annoyed w/ the front desk w/ the room assignment. Got totally lost getting to the room.
Got more lost getting to Downtown Disney!
Finally got to the T-Rex Restaurant. It was loud, but the food was good. The boys (9 & 5) had a great time. Got the kids some dinosaur bones ice cube trays -- time to start tossing the cash down the drain! DS turns 9 on the trip, so the server brought out a b-day dessert -- very happy DS!!! 9 year old ate the cookie, 5 year old ate the ice cream. That's the theme for the week. 9 year old hates ice cream -- younger DS loves it!! I'm on some medication which has a side effect of reducing my appetite (good for the diet, but we bought the dining plan, so I don't want to waste food -- have a box w/ half my dinner! planning on eating it for breakfast!)
OK -- time to roust the snoring giant (DH) and go to the pool! will update more later! and try to figure out how to post photos! (Yes -- I'm the whiny person who got totally lost on te SSR buses -- just for reference in case anyone forgot....)
