CA Enterprise car rental question

We'll be in San Diego for the first time next month and I found a great car rental rate on Enterprise's website...$172 inc. taxes for a week for a compact.

Anyway, after printing out the contract, I noticed it said that Enterprise places a "$300 credit card authorization on the rental". Is this normal? We've never rented from Enterprise, nor in California, before. I take it that it means they do it to make sure you have at least that much available, but that it's not actually charged?

Thanks!

I have a rental reserved for Enterprise in San Diego also. I didn't notice that. Guess I need to go read my paperwork again.

I've rented from Enterprise many times and never noticed that. Of course, I don't always read the fine print! LOL I've never had a problem with them, though.

Me too...rented from Enterprise many times, including in San Diego. Never been charged for anything but the actual price of the rental, and was really impressed with the service there last July...using them again for sure next month!

I rent exclusively from Enterprise. All over the country. They have always places an authorization on my card and have always told me about about it when I rent.

Thanks! I called Enterprise back and they explained the whole thing. I got a great rate from them, so it's all good.
