I have had my unit with humidifier for 3 or 4 years.

The Problems:

8/7/15 traveling get to our overnight hotel, ready for bed, plug it in, nothing happens. DH touches turns moves it around. I walk away a few minutes later it turns on.

8/8/15 we reach our destination, get ready for bed, plug it in nothing, I walk away nothing, it's plugged into the nightstand table that has outlets, 15 mins in nothing. I move it to the other side of bed directly into an outlet. I thought I saw a flash but I'm just too tired. Walk away, it turns on.

7/2015 Many storms in the area, I purchase a power station for power outages because I can not sleep without it. It's charged and ready to go it's working with everything. 11pm the power goes out, the cpap will not work with it.

3/2015 WDW plug it in, started working maybe 7minutes later.

Does anyone else have these issues?
I have read a few articles about continuous current and wave current in regard to cpap machines. Of course at home sitting on my night stand it works like a charm.

Any tips?

Hotels often have very loose outlets send I am guessing that is probably what is happening to you.
People plug things in and then pull on the cord to unplug them instead of going closer and grabbing the plugs. That bends the contacts inside the outlet and the plug doesn't make reliable contact with the contact points inside the outlet. We've seen that with phone and camera chargers where we can see the power light go on and off. In one outlet, I noticed the light was out, went over and the outlet was so loose the plug had actually fallen out. If they are really loose, even the little vibrations of walking away, moving nearby or lightly touching the cord can move the plug enough that it no longer makes contact.

My suggestion would be to check the outlets. If they seem loose, contact Engineering to get them repaired.

We usually plug our CPAP into the plug where the clock radio sits on the nightstand. We unplug the radio and use that outlet. This seems to be okay for us; we have not had an issue with our device. We take a lot of road trips and so far so good.

that's a good choice because it's probably one that doesn't get unplugged.
I think a lot of the 'loose plugs' are probably the result of Housekeeping either purposely pulling the plug out by yanking on the cord or by accidentally pulling it out by stretching the cord too far.
Lamps might get unplugged by people, but not likely the clock radio.

All of these outlets that don't work for my cpap, work just fine for my DH's cpap and any other device we have with us. I always check to be sure it's not just a out of power outlet. Everything else works fine. Which leads me to believe it has to with my Novo unit. The power station works with my DH's unit the Resmed no problem.

Do you use the Fisher Paykel brand?

given that, I'd suggest getting the cord checked out. You might have a tiny cracked wire inside the cord. I had a computer cord that happened to once. From what I've read, if the cord is positioned so the 2 ends of the wire touch, electricity goes thru. But, all it takes is a tiny little jostle to make them not touch and it won't work.

At the first sign of any problem, take your unit to the dispensing office to get it checked out. My insurance pays for this. I have had to get new cards and once had to exchange a machine for a new one.

The end to this story is October 29, 2015 we traveled to Arkansas by car. My cpap died, flat lined!!!! The hotel staff tried it in every vacant outlet in the hotel. Nothing. After a rough night I was up and on the phone, I googled cpap suppliers and found a company that had me bring it in.

$1000.00 plus later, I walked away with a Resmed air sense 10.

I did call my respiratory doctors office for advise, there was nothing they could do because I was out of state and could not bring it in. They did tell me that the novo is the only unit they offer now. After all of the issues that I had, I was for sure I would not purchase that brand again.

I purchased the resmed because if I rented one for free from them I would have to return it on the following Monday. We were in AR for a funeral and we needed to be heading back to Texas on October 31st. The bottom line is I can't really sleep without it and this place had many new models in stock for immediate purchase. Lucky me :(

I never had any problems with the Novo at home, travel was the issue. It really did die altogether, I really thought it would start right up when we got home, no it didn't.

The end
