I know I read it somewhere on this board how to bypass the air conditioning at night when there is no movement in the room. Can anyone refresh my memory? Leaving in 4 days!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :cool1:

Ugh - I SO wish I knew how to do this when we were there. It was so sticky and gross walking in from the hot theme parks and waking up sweaty wasn't fun either. That was one thing that really annoyed me there. I think this is why lots of people complain about a mildew smell - the rooms aren't regulated. They just get hotter and hotter

The grounds, pools and restaurants and such are great though!!

I just returned from the Poly and wanted to give a heads up on that sensor that only turns the AC on when there is movement in the room. Last trip we were not happy when we awoke in the middle of the night hot. After reading the DIS I found that there is a way to bypass the sensor. On this trip I called maintenance immediately and someone came right over to show me how to do it. He said that you can bypass it anytime and they get a lot of requests for it. So here is the way to do it: On the thermostat push the power button and the down arrow(that adjusts the temp) at the exact same time. If you do this correctly there will be the letters "bp" where the temp numbers usually are. You are now bypassing the sensors in the room. You can then set the temp to whatever you want and it keeps the room that cold whether you are in it or not. He, the maintenance CM, then said that you might have to do this once a day as the thermostat tends to go back to sensor mode after 24 hours. We found that it stayed on bypass for a couple of days at a time. It was great to come back to a cold room or not wake up in the middle of the night in a sweat again. The CM that did this for us said it was nop problem doing this as they do it for people all the time. Guess they get a lot of complaints.

Thanks! I will be printing this out and bringing it with us on our trip next month!

OMG! I said next month! It's next MONTH!!! AWESOME!!!

I just did the same thing for trip in August.

Thanks skiwee1!

Gee, I wish I had known how to bypass the sensors last week while DH and I were at the Poly. We woke up sweaty every night and would take turns getting up to activate the AC. "It's your turn." "No, I got up the last time." :) Even with the interrupted sleep we had a great trip and are trying to figure out when we can go back!

We printed that out and took it with us on our May trip. It worked perfectly at the Polynesian but it doesn't work at AKL. Must have two different A/C systems.

They showed us how to control the A/C last August and we never had a problem with it.

Ilovestitch,

Great photo!!!

I found this post from 1995. I remember trying it at the Poly but didn't have any success. How do you bypass the AC sensor at the Poly to keep the air turned on in the room when you are not there?

skiwee1 a lot will love you now.

I stayed at the Poly last August and never had a problem with the a/c. It was never hot in the room and I am one that keeps the ac temp down low.

Is this just a problem at the Poly or at all of them? I'm staying at AKL (hopefully) in August. Does it do it there, too? The last thing I want to do in August is come back to a hot room or wake up in the middle of the night hot!

I think you are going to find this at every resort eventually. This saves energy & is part of the resorts going "green."

I'm all for saving energy, but I'm also not one who enjoys the AC going off on vacation especially when I'm in Florida!

If for some reason trying to bypass the a/c doesn't work, let a helium balloon just float around the room:thumbsup2

I didn't have a problem with the AC at the AKL last September, and I like my room cool. I did however keep the ceiling fan on continously.
