BYOB...how to get it onboard

okay now, hubby likes his beer in bottles. i like wine coolers. might bring wine. we are going to get a whole year's worth of drinking into one week. i have four beers in the fridge that have been there since september..tells you how much we really drink.

how do i pack it in a suitcase to GUARENTEE that we don't walk around smelling like a couple of leftover lushes(things don't break)???

Don't put any bottles in your checked baggage. Officially, DCL does not allow liquids in checked baggage. Also, the way that bags are thrown around I wouldn't want bottles in any bags that I check -- on the plane or on the ship.

Put any bottles into a carryon bag. I wrapped two wine bottles in bubble wrap, put them in my carryon bag, and brought the bag onto the plane and the ship. The bag was x-rayed at the airport and at the port with no problem either place.

We had 6 bottles of wine in our backpack - wrapped in bubble wrap- that we carried on. They allow you to bring alcohol on at the island ports, so why would they care at the initial port?

If you are flying I would not pack bottles of any kind in my check-ons. Your best bet is to wait till you get to Fla. and if possible make a stop at an ABC store before boarding the ship. If that's not possible then I would wait till I got to the first port of call then purchase my drinks there.
Disney will let you bring it aboard without taking it away from you, returning it after the cruise is over like most cruiselines do.

We just received our tickets and they state that no coolers are allowed, however, I've read on the board that SOFT coolers packed with beer/wine are OK.

I'd like to bring a few bottles of wine, but pick up more the first day in Key West. Does anyone know 1) if you can buy alcohol (in beverage stores) on Sundays? and 2) whether it's cool to bring the drinks on board from Key West.

We flew on American and took the 6 bottles of wine in our backpack. The airlines do not care if you bring alcohol in carryon, you just can't pop the cork on board. Think about all that alcohol that is bought duty free and carried home on the airlines.

i am not sure if you are talking about water or not owever if anyone is interested i just called and they said you can bring your own water

We sailed on 11/21 and had a bottle of wine and a case of beer in our large carry-on bag. The security guards joked about not being able to take liquor on board and they may need to keep the beer -- but it was all in fun and they told us to enjoy!

Yes, you can bring alcohol. I would buy warm, so you don't need to worry about keeping it cold while checking in and waiting to get in your stateroom. I would keep the wine coolers or beer in their original box, so that the cardboard dividers are in place. Then stick it in a rolling carryon-sized bag with some styrofoam peanuts or bubble wrap around the outside of the bottles. That way you can pull it arond and the weight won't bother you.

Or, you could just stick a 12 pack of beer in the bottom of your baby stroller. Well, that worked for us.

We brought 2 bottles of wine on with us. Other then the small hassle of carrying it, they did not question us at all. You can even bring your own bottle of wine to dinner with you. Just keep in mind that if you do not have an opener they will charge you a corkage fee. We just drank ours with some new friends on our balcony one evening.

We always pack what we want in our carry on luggage. Sometimes I have packed non-carbonated items in our checked luggage. The trick is to use bubble wrap but first put the bottle in a zip lock bag. I haven't had one break. Also place the bottle in the middle of your suitcase with lots of clothing to pad it. My preferred method is to pack in our roller type carry on bags. **we even bought a puffer fish from the shell shop in Key West three years ago and I packed it in bubble wrap and it arrived home safely! I was surprised because I thought it would get crushed since the silly thing was hollow. Kathy

we are flying in the day before and will have access to my sister's car so we'll hit the store the night before. i think my daughter's rolling lizzie mcguire bag would be perfect for the alcohol...if i can get it away from her!! anyone know how large of a carry on i can get away with??

we are also bring water but i am not so worried about that. can i throw that in with my checked luggage? it's plastic.

I really enjoy reading the threads about wine bring it on board. Some people say it is okay and others don't think it is right.

I read a post a while back about bringing a carafe on board. Did anyone hear if that happened?

I guess if you can bring a carafe you can bring bottles of wine.

That's not quite true. The corkage fee ($15 + 15% automatic gratuity) is not a fee for pulling the cork. It's a fee for bringing your own to a dining room instead of purchasing wine from DCL. You should not expect to avoid the corkage fee by bringing a screw-top bottle or bringing your own corkscrew. You can avoid the corkage fee by drinking the wine in your own stateroom.

DCL allows it. Most other cruise lines do not. I don't recall ever reading anything on this board that some don't think it's right to bring your own wine onto the ship.

All carry on luggage must fit throught the scanner which is like what the airports use. We even had one sack with items in it. No problem. Kathy

I think what I remember is someone asking about a blender . I was kind of wondering the same thing for our Mexico cruise. Hum.... kind of perfect for our margarita and nacho party, yes?

We bought a 12-pack of beer and a bottle of gin in Key West on a Sunday. We carried them on no questions asked. Also, there were a few men carrying on about 5 cases of beer -- again, no questions asked. HTH

We stayed at WDW for four days before our cruise and my DH asked the limo driver who was taking us from WDW to Port Canaveral to stop at a store, he stopped at a 7-eleven my husband bought three bottles of wine and a 12 pack of Miller lite,we purchased a carry on bag at WDW and we just checked in at the port, we were fine the stateroom steward (Ary) was so nice he asked us when we wanted ice for our in-room cooler which is very similar to a fridge and we got ice every morning and every night. We even bought more beer at a market in St. Maarten. It was just nice to have a cocktail before dinner in our room or a night cap. Happy traveling.
