BYOB...how to get it onboard

I have been reading DIS for a while as my family is starting to think about actually doing a cruise.

I really enjoy reading the threads about wine bring it on board. Some people say it is okay and others don't think it is right.

I read a post a while back about bringing a carafe on board. Did anyone hear if that happened?

I guess if you can bring a carafe you can bring bottles of wine.

Some were saying that that bringing a glass of wine, either your own or from a bar into the dining room with you was acceptable....then someone said they would bring a carafe to the dining room...that is where there was some debate....I believe this thead was on the 10 day holiday cruise.

:cool1: Okay, I have gotten the drift about the freedom to bring wine on board...and believe me... :cool1: we will take advantage of that freedom! :flower:

:confused3 My question is......how the heck do you get through the airports and the shipboarding with a razor sharp wine opener? :confused3

I suppose...but someone chime in here...the airlines let you pack it in your checked baggage only? Does DCL care you are bringing on a potential weapon? You never know these days :flower:

We put 2 cases of water and juice into our checked luggage at the port without any problems.

You can successfully pack wine and beer into the luggage without it breaking. When we traveled to Germany in 2000 my husband went to the store on the night before we left and bought an ungodly amount of wine and beer. I think I ended up packing 10 bottles of wine and 20 some bottles of beer into our 2 suitcases for the trip home. Amazingly enough nothing broke. I thought for sure atleast one bag would be wet but I was wrong. No bubble wrap either just rolled them in clothes.

Our family that we travel with on DCL always brings wine and what they do is go to the bar and buy a glass of wine then keep the glass the whole week, refill it and bring it to dinner like that.

I think you can just ask your room steward to get you some wine glasses for your room and they will gladly accomodate. We took a glass of wine with us to the dining room a couple of nights on the 10 day. It was not a problem. Bought wine a couple of nights and brought the bottle of champagne that we got in our REAS basket with us one night to share with our tablemates. They did not charge a corkage fee because it was champagne we had purchased from Disney. We tip well, so I do not think our servers felt "cheated" at not getting the 15% on the 2 nights we brought our own wine.

I believe you can pack a corkscrew but it must be in your checked luggage, not carryon.

we took a 12 pack of beer - in our checked luggage....only about 8 remained when we got the bag!
