I received an email from dvc a week or so ago. Said for a limited time I could add on to my current use year at bwv for 115 a point. I guess its going up soon!! Has anyone else received the same thing?

I'm pretty sure that everyone who owns the BWV and gave DVC his/her email address got that message. I did. I've also read reports that members have been getting similar messages for other sold out DVC resorts.

Perhaps DVD just has some inventory (from foreclosures and ROFR purchases) that it wants to get rid of.

Only $115 per point. What a deal!

I got a similar e-mail re: adding on at VWL for $102 per point.

I'd have a hard time paying 100+ per point direct for resorts with only 30 yrs left on the membership when resale prices are in the 60s (or lower) and falling at the same resorts.

I'm with you on that. I guess I can't quite understand why someone who is an experienced owner would add-on at DVC direct pricing. After making the initial purchase and learning the ropes of the program, it seems to me that the only logical way to add-on is resale. That's what we did ... initial purchase DVC, add-ons through Timeshare Store. Simple, easy, tansparent. I know, I know, there are those minor restrictions now between direct and resale, but doesn't seem significant enough to me to justify giving yo nearly a 50% discount on the price. The only way to narrow that is for DVC to execute ROFR's on the low resale pricing.

I agree. Certainly Disney will command a certain premium because some just feel more comfortable purchasing direct from a company like Disney, and also because of the minor restrictions.

But the premium seems way out of line to me.

As is often noted on these boards, many "experienced" owners don't know anything about resale. And they don't go on forums like this. To them, $115 might seem like a good deal compared to what BLT is going for.

We just assume that all DVC owners know as much as we do. But in truth, it is probably a pretty small percent that really know the ropes of the program, much less how to save on resale, etc.

I so agree with this.....there is probably such a small percentage of those that truly know the in and outs of DVC. The one that do are members of this forum. Back when we purchase this forum was a savior for us. All our questions were answered as well as some very helpful advice as we moved forward in the process.

I got it too. I just added on, but through resale for $55 a point. A much better deal!

Good point, Granny. I've met different owners ... some who have no clue, others who are very knowledgable. I met one really nice guy on the cruise last spring at the members meeting on-board who had researched the program and used these boards and was able to fully take advantage of their ownership the same way I do. (As a matter of fact, we had both rented our points to fund the cruise!) I guess those are the ones who would say no way to $115! Others may jump on it. Different strokes.

PS - I see you're in St Louis. I used to live there for a few years myself, and even as a lifelong Cubs fan, I hope the Cards can win enough here at the end to sneak into the wildcard!

The difference between direct and resale certainly has grown in the past 3-4 years. It was not that long ago that we did 2 add-ons, one direct and one resale, and the price difference was about $15. Turned out to be a wash after we paid closing costs on the resale and not on the direct contract.

We got the email too. Seems high even by Disney standards. Maybe if they extended the expiratrion date it would make some sense.

WE bought originally at $65 pp and even if I had to sell at $45 pp I would have had 15 years of fantastic vacations and memories. At the time we bought I am not sure there was evena resale mkt..seems like it was rare even when I found these boards. Now I think I'd be crazy not to buy resale as they seem to be everywhere... even occasionally on ebay. I can't imagine paying current "disney" price. Yes, there have been restrictions, but aside from doing a DIsney Cruise when we had points to burn one year, we have not done anything outside the vacation clubs and losing access to the explorer club and whatnot is not a $50 + drawback.

I also got the email and was surprised...I thought that buying direct had been $115 for BWV for a while...the email made it sound like it was a limited time offer sort of deal. Marketing strategy I guess.

To the other poster who asked why anyone would buy direct---we had a really hard time finding a good size contract with our UY (right before the rule change this year). We almost added on directly since it was such a hassle trying to beat out everyone else for a small sized contract with last year's points with our UY. I can see why some people would add on directly for convenience, especially for a small-ish contract (like 50 pts or so).

Thanks...still "sneaking" with one game to go! :)

BTW, I love that picture in your avatar. What a cool place to visit. :thumbsup2

Thanks! I can only describe it as a guys trip of a lifetime!

Thanks to the Braves (and Cubs) you're in! Tough match-up against the Phillies, but should be fun. (OK, mods, I know, off-topic. Sorry ... done)
