BWV vs. BCV

Paying dues is the cost of staying where you love and booking at 11 months to guarantee your happiness. If you want to stay at Disney and save the most money, then DVC isn't the way to go.

To me it's all about the resort theming, the amenities, the view, location, and feeling that you get when you walk into the resort.

I agree. I pay my dues at the Grand Californian just to get that 11 month window there when I want it. Also because they were the cheapest points available (with incentives) when I made my direct-from-Disney purchase. I don't care where I stay in WDW, so I don't need an 11-month window in Florida. I'll take whatever DVC is available (though I do have favorites).

My comment about dues was an attempt to find another contributing factor in the OP's question: why is BCV resale priced higher than BWV? Some people do want to save money - even if it's not the most important factor.

I don't believe there's any objective info putting DVC ahead of other top timeshares other than personal preference. I think you're giving DVC too much credit and likely some others too little. Many have heard bad things about timeshares, assume it to be true and assume DVC is different, they're not.

I have visited many timeshares while staying at Marriots around the world as a platinum member and many are superior as far as accomodations go to DVC but i have also seen some like Hilton Vacation clubs that have really gone down hill as I have used my bosses while working out of country. In the beginning it was a decent place to stay but after 8 years the place is now a dump and I refuse to stay there and my boss can't unload it.

i suppose DVC could become a dump but I seriously doubt it . It will never be my idea of luxury resort living but location can't be beat and for family vacations it works for us. I prefer to travel using VRBO rather than own outside of DVC//personal preference

Just a note....my OP said I had a small BLT contract in ROFR. Just found out that Disney waived! :) Now...to convince my wife we need MORE...lol.

Once I had stayed at both, I was surprised to find that the difference in distance to Epcot is not as great as I had first thought. When I went back to check, sure enough it's actually not that different.

Walk from BCV lobby doors to IG bridge: 7 minutes, 0.3 miles.

Walk from BWV staircase to IG bridge: 9 minutes, 0.4 miles.

That's the point. The benefit is location, not system or quality. Certainly DVC is nice enough and no one does theming like Disney but from a quality, upkeep, other amenities standpoint; others do a better job. I'm willing to bet your friends timeshare is not a core HGVC ownership but an affiliated one. IMO, and in that of many long term owners, it has deteriorated quite a bit over time already. I don't think it'll ever be a dump but side by side it's at the bottom of the top group for Orlando of around 12 resorts IMO. Now I'll be the first to admit that the lack of other amenities and activities are in part related to the location. It's great for disney though expensive, it's horrible or worse for non DVC options and as a single item to satisfy all travel, I believe it's an also ran when you add price/value into the equation.

We're considering the Epcot resorts (along with the rest of DVC) and I had a question about the pool at BCV in the winter. Is it generally 100% open during Jan/Feb? We're Canadians, and have no issues swimming in 70 degree weather, but I don't want to pay extra for a great pool if it's not fully available when I'm likely to be there...

It is open and heated.
