This was the seacond time we stayed at the boardwalk and used extra points for a garden or pool view and ended up with one giant over grown tree view. I complained to the resort and they said that they did not make the decisions on which rooms got charged extra points for views. I called member service and they said the same thing. The women also said to me do you relize you are only talking about 4 points. I reminded her that those points cost me $100.00 dolars a piece. The BWV are becoming my least favorite resort. Am I the only one with this problem.:confused3

Really, I don't have a problem with it. Everything that isn't a standard view has the higher point cost. Why not just book the standard room instead? In 2011 those rooms will really save you points.

BWV owner here, and usually I book standard view. I've booked "preferred" view only twice. Once it was for DF's and they got a view of a tree, and the other time I had a great village green view studio.

Standard view rooms also have large trees just off the balcony. Since the villas usually have large balconies it really doesn't matter to us. The problem I have with it is the bees/wasps that hang out in these trees.

We only book Standard view or Boardwalk view. The one time I had to book Preferred view (late booking, that's all they had left) I requested a villa over the Village Green & we got it. :thumbsup2 I'm not a fan of looking over the clown pool.

I think like most resorts they divide the resort up into general segments. These are then give view or room type names. That is not to say that every room in that view/location segment has that same view. We had a garden view at the Poly which turned out to be a roof view. That was a real bummer but at least is wasn't a dumpster.

Maybe you will feel better to think that the preferred garden/pool view is the the regular price (same as BCV and VWL) and the standard view is the deal you as a BWV owner can reserve.

This can happen at every resort and does.

We had a savanna view at Kidani in December and our view was the rear of the pool area.

At BLT our lake view was a view of the Contemporary boat dock.

I was also disappointed when I stayed there last month. Unfortunately, they didn't have any standards left when I booked at 7 months out. So, I got the preferred view of a big tree plus it felt like it was a 1/2 mile walk to the lobby.

You did not pay $100/point for this trip only, you paid $100/point for about 50 years worth of trips. :lovestruc

You are only allowed to complain about $2/point for this trip :woohoo: (Complaining about the $100/point for this trip is the same logic as calling your home builder the first time your toilet clogs saying, "I paid $250,000 for this toilet, fix it!")

Good point. Unfortunately, that sounds like something the government could say . . . and it be accurate!

Truthfully, I find the name "Preferred/Pool View" is somewhat misleading.

I look at the rooms this way: Discounted (what DVC calls "Standard View"), Boardwalk/Crescent Lake View (what DVC calls "Boardwalk View") and everything else (what DVC calls "Preferred/Pool View"). So unless you are lucky enough to get the Discounted rooms or the Boardwalk/Crescent Lake View, you will be enjoying the pot luck of any other room at the BWV. With these rooms, sometimes the view is great, sometimes not so much.

As BWV owners, we try never to book anything other than SV or BW view and so far have only had to settle for a reservation in the other rooms for one night out of about 50. Even then, we were upgraded for that one night to a BW view, which really didn't make a lot of difference as we were checking in past Midnight and checking out again in the morning to move to our SV room! -- Suzanne

So sorry you got a ratty view. I have heard lots of stories lately about CM's with I really don't care attitudes. I think if they have to put someone in a room where there is absolutely no view because a big tree blocks everything than do something to compensate. How about a stack of fast passes or some other small thoughtful thing. Or just change the rooms category the next year and allocate the points based on such. pirate:

The standard view rooms are really the bargain - and the guarenteed BWV is nice. But you pretty much have to own AND plan ahead to take advantage of those views - and if you don't own, take comfort in the fact that us BWV owners pay higher dues than everyone else - but get first dibs on those rooms. I agree that "preferred" is really misnamed. Remember that you can end up with Dumpster View at VWL or Road View at BCV for the same number of points you can get Tree View at BWVs!

And at BLT a Magic Kingdom view that is really a parking lot view.

Don't mean to hijack the thread, but this post caught my eye. We're making our first trip to Kidani in August, a 2BR SAV view. Did you still have a good view of the savannah, and just also happened to be able to see the rear of the pool area? Or was your view dominated by the pool and if you really looked hard, you could see a little savannah?

Thanks!

Don't know if this helps or not, but I stayed at Jambo House twice earlier this year in a savannah view studio. Loved the first view, the second time wasn't good at all! I asked about it and was moved to a new room - maybe also because there was trash on the floor from the occupants before us? It didn't seem like it was a big deal, I was told that the fee would be waived. Again, I think because of the dirty room.

*note to self... Find axe that can fit in an owners locker!

I love it!! I could have used an axe last October at SSR. I did a solo trip and requeted a room that DH and I stayed in twice. Great!! I got the room!! The only problem was, it was about 3 years ago when DH and I stayed in that room. It was a "Downtown Disney View" category. But when I walked into the room I immediately went to the slider to check things out and I had to laugh. The trees grew so tall that whatever DTD view I remember was now totally blocked by trees and the view I rememered of the pool when sitting on the balcony was now blocked by all the bushes and schrubs! :rotfl2:
