BWV: Two Views Only - Standard and Boardwalk

I completely agree with that statement! I am perfectly satisified with the BWV points structure as it is. The way it is set up now leads to expectations being met, and few disappoinments. One of the reasons I avoid BCV is because paying premium points for that service road view is a ripoff, and that seems to be my BCV destiny! pirate:

Couldn't agree more!! I love the setup as is right now at BWV.

I just changed over my BCV res. for next march to BWV (7 month window). I was shocked to be offered all 3 views. I took BW view :thumbsup2 After the crap view I had at BCV in May, I will be using most of my BCV points at BWV (where I also own).

Same here. As an owner I don't want anyone messing with the present point structure. It works great. You know what you are getting when you book.

I like the current point structure too. What I would like to see (off topic!) is for DVC to change preferred views with views blocked by large trees to standard view rooms :rotfl2:

They can't without raising points for some of the other rooms.

Hmmmmm. IIRC, someone (not a DVC owner at the time) complained about the vegetation at OKW blocking the view from her room. OKW responded with the "chain saw" solution. It was not a popular solution with OKW owners who posted here at the time and she had quite a few flames tossed her way for having the "gall" to complain about her view. :)

Just a little bit of DIS history for the newbies.

Best wishes -

I don't think the BWV should change. It is set-up very much like the BWI (boardwalk view, water view, standard).

I totally disagree wiht the OP.

When the villas first opened, there was all one view. They reallocated points to create the standard view because of the parking lot and all the complaints.

Then the BW view became an issue, so they divided up preferred into Pool/garden/water and Boardwalk.

I think it is perfect the way it is, and very much in line with the cash resorts.

Sorry - we agree with the others (as opposed to the OP). We're HAPPY the way things are now. :thumbsup2 NO change needed.

I can understand BWV owners wanting it to stay the same, but the problem lies in that there are many slots of "preferred view" rooms that face the parking lot. I had one of those and it wasn't worth the preferred points at all imho. I thought the pool views were much nicer and deserving of preferred points.

The entire side along the entrance and the short side that looks at the fountain pond/parking lot/tennis courts/waterway to MGM is standard view. There are no other parking lots and no other rooms look at the parking lot because it is all on that side of the building.

If you were looking at a parking lot, you were in a standard view.

Sorry Kathleena......there are indeed "preferred" parking lot views. When we checked in, we called the front desk thinking there was a mistake. They put me on a 3 way call with MS and both confirmed that there are indeed valet parking lot views in the back. Many people on the DIS have confirmed this as well. I just don't understand this at all, but MS and BWV told me because I had a "view" of water.....being the small canal beneath the balcony.
I followed up my experience with DVC in an email upon my return home, hoping to be refunded the PV points and charged SV points for our room----no way were they budging. There is some imaginary line that DVC/BWV drew when they decided which rooms would be standard vs preferred on that side of the hotel.
Edited to add : our room was #4131 if anyone is interested

The issue isn't being able to see the parking lot, but not being able to see anything else. There are a number of preferred views where you can see the parking lot closest to the canal but also see the canal as well. Obviously there has to be a transition somewhere. Just remember that everything was the same and they reduced the SV from the rest. So you're not really paying more for a preferred view, but actually less for a standard view.

They could change the units included in SV but they'd have to increase the preferred and BW view points accordingly.

True Dean. I did admit to having a view of the canal...and I've accepted it and learned from it. But there were rooms that were a mere 4 doors down from me and considered "standard" view. They had "essentially" the same view as me and I paid "preferred". I was a "little" closer to the canal but that's it. I understand they had to draw the line somewhere and it's why if I ever stay there again on PV points I will definitely request a pool view. I'm not sure what other preferred views there are besides the canal and pools ? But parking lot is not my idea of preferred, imho.

Count me in as another happy BWV owner!!!

The way it's set up now is perfect. The standard views (which IMHO are not bad at all) are a true point bargain. The preferred views are very nice & worth a few more points. The BW views are great & if one is lucky enough to get one then good for them! :thumbsup2

As I said, with the history of the views one needs to look at it as paying less for the SV not more for the PV. Just reserve SV or BW view and if you can't for some reason, either skip BWV or resign one's self to the facts at hand.

Twice I had standard views that were close to the edge, the dividing line. When I looked out, I concentrated on the ToT, and the canal, not the parking lot, (aren't there also cooling/heating units, or some sort of maintenance things there too?) and I suppose it was easier for me to do that since I was paying fewer points. For what it's worth though, on that last BWV stay, in one of those villas, rather than go to the elevators, I walked down the steps that were right there. I think we were "only on" the 2nd or 3rd floor. Well, that was January, and my ankle is still paying the price. IF we get those rooms again, I'm going to take the extra minutes and walk to the elevator, even if we're going to walk to Epcot or MGM.

Oh true Dean....not disagreeing with ya.....and as I said....I have accepted this. I have live and learned.....

bobbiwoz,
I did try this.....but the parking lot is 75% of the view. It's all you can see from inside the room looking out the balcony doors. Only if you are standing out on the balcony and looking 90 degrees to the right, can you see TOT. I would have found this view much easier on SV points as well.

I think my SV had a better view than that. Certainly not a 75% parking lot view. If you looked down from our balcony and ignored the maintenance whatever, I saw a pond with ducks swimming in it.

Maybe YOU can get SV the next time! I hope so.

Oh yes, I agree....but then you had to be actually standing on the balcony and looking directly down. But from inside the room, all we could see was the parking lot.....that's why I considered that the primary view........if you stood inside the room and looked out the doors the parking lot was all we could see, along with a service vehicle drivway (for PV points).
I doubt I could get SV points because it's not my home resort......but I'll request a pool view if I stay there again. And to repeat.....I've accepted this and I can understand why BWV owners would want to keep it this way. I just wonder how BWV owners feel about the view I got for PV points ? Some may think it's a not-so-bad view I suppose......

MiaSRN62, well, there have been times that I hadn't had enought BWV points to book SV at first and went on a waitlist for it. Once it was for a 2 bedroom in August, and we did get it. That actually was one of the times that we were at the end of the hall, so don't give up your hope for SV. But sure, request what you'd like to view on the reservation!

Bobbi :)
