Can someone give a comparison size wise between BWV vs. OKW studios for a family of four (2 adults/2 children-10 & 11) for a five day stay.

We like the idea of trying BWV because of being able to walk to Epcot and MGM but wonder if the size of the room should be an influence.

Thanks for any insight you might can give.

in a studio you probably won't notice the difference - it is not enough to matter -what you will notice - one queen bed (not two) and a double sleeper sofa - if that doesn't matter to you go for it....

I have heard the OKW studio is larger, but you can't really tell it, (except for the bathroom is larger), because the configuration is so different: having two queen beds. We just got back from a BW studio and couldn't believe how spacious it felt, especially considering it's not much larger than a WDW moderate; which we have stayed in numerous times. The fact that the couch is a pull-out bed makes a huge difference and the way the vanity and kitchenette is set up; it just feels larger. Just put the couch back together during the day. I highly recommend BWV because of location, location, location. We took our 4 year old son and had an absolute blast.

We stayed at OKW this summer in a studio. I was expecting this huge room after reading on these boards how much bigger all the rooms at OKW are. Personally, I didn't really notice a difference between an OKW studio and a BWV studio except for the 2 queen beds and the layout.

I don't know about your family but I have an 8yo and a 11yo and the last place they want to be in Disney is in the room (be it a studio or a Grand Villa). We spend most of our days at the parks, swimming, DTD, etc. We don't use the room much except as a place to sleep.

Oh, and the location of BWV is just awesome!

but if you really want the sq ft - 390 for OKW, BWV - 359,

most of the extra at OKW is in the bathrooms and in the area between the beds and the tables.

Its the one bedroom and larger units that are so much larger and more comfortable than the BWV units.

As others have said, although technically the OKW studio is larger sq footage wise the stuidos at BWV, VWL, BCV appear so much larger and have much more usuable/functional space due to the 1 bed/sofa combo and the layout of the kitchen, bathroom sink area and entryway into the unit.
The OKW studio is a regular hotel room with a mini kitchenette in the hallway leading to the bathroom. The studios at BWV, etc are true studios. If you are looking for a true studio apt set up then BWV, etc is the way to go; if you want a hotel room w/wet bar set up then OKW is the answer.
The size difference in the OKW units vs BWV, BCV, VWL is in the 1 BR. The OKW 1br has substantially more sq footage then the other WDW DVC resorts, the 2 BR has more sq footage due to the 1 BR component, and the GVs are like the studios, the size difference is not even significant.
I have yet to stay at any DVC resort that was not comfortable or beautifully decorated and appointed.
In regards to location, there is not even a comparison between the superior locations of BWV,BCV & VWL and OKW for proximity and convenience to parks, restaurants, shops, park nighttime parades, fireworks, etc.
Have a great trip

We have stayed at both OKW & BWV studios and they are nice. However, for convenience BWV is better for the following reasons. First, it is walking distance to both EPCOT & MGM. Second, if you want ice it is readily available. Also, the garbage disposal is readily availabe. If you need ice at OKW you have to walk to the Bus stops to get it. Not my idea of fun. I do understand that the atmosphere is different at OKW; however, I do like the convenience while on vacation. Third, there are no elevators at OKW. Hence, if you are on the third floor you must walk up the stairs and carrying packages from the stores could be a real inconvenience.

Just offering some thoughts on the subject. Enjoy your vacation. You will have a nice time whereever you stay.

Forgot to mention in my previous post, although OKW is larger the difference in the size of the room is negligible. Enjoy!

I like the OKW studio bathroom better than the other studio bathrooms. I like having it all in one room and not having barely enough room to turn around between the tub and toilet.

And there are elevators at OKW, in buildings 62, 63 and 64.

You just have to decide whether you want to do your walking vertically (up stairs) or horizontally (down the endless corridors).

But we won't go into that one......

We booked OKW for Mar. BWV were booked but thats Ok cause we want to try them all eventually. Thanks for all the replies.

I've stayed in both studios and I'll admit I prefer the larger bathroom at OKW to BWV's, as well as the second real bed. We didn't find the fold-out at BWV to be as comfortable as the 2nd queen bed in OKW. But overall, if convenience to Epcot and MGM is what you want, I'm sure you'll be very happy at BWV. We don't find the lack of elevators (except for the 3 bldings mentioned) at OKW a problem-----at least no more than we did our very long walk to the elevator at BWV. I think it all evens out in the end.......enjoy your stay :earsgirl:

We love the BWV studios for 2 people, but if son is staying with us, we want the extra bed in the studio at OKW. I personally feel that dealing with the pull-out sofa is a pain.

We own at OKW and love it, but when it comes to the Studio, we prefer BWV or BCV.

1. There's only 2 of us so we don't need the 2nd bed at OKW.

2. BWV/BCV Studios actually have more walking around room than OKW when you consider the couch takes up less room than a bed. Also, the couch gives you a place to sit down.

3. Location to Epcot and MGM. When we're in a Studio, location is much more important. When we get a 1-B/R, size is more important, so then we stay at OKW.

Even with having to open up the couch every night, I would think a BWV/BCV/VWL Studio might be nicer because there's seating for all four of you when you're in the room yet not sleeping. At OKW when you're in the room, there's only seating for two people at the small table.

okay I disagree - the table at OKW is in one of those area where there is more room - just pull the chairs from outside and you can have seating for everyone. now you might need to move the table and I am sure that this is possible....

now in some of the studios - this arrangement is not possible - but in most of them it is.

I hope you love OKW - view are water, golf or woods - you can ask to near the bus stop, pool or HH - HH is the Hospitality HOuse-where just about everything except your villa is located - tennis courts, community hall, the rentals/boat/bike, the boat to DD, restuarants, general store, front desk, the library (I really wish you could bring the schools to your room), gym, snack bar, main pool, basketball.

building 63-64 have elevators - the other don't - to get a good view you need to be on the 2 or 3rd floor - some building only have a 2nd floor - but you can elect generally to be on the 1st floor - don't except a handicapped room - there is no tub in a studio handicapped if they give you a first floor ask at the front desk if this is handicapped. the steps are not a bad climb.

I do agree with Spiceycat on this. I think the shape of the OKW studio makes it feel roomier even with being unable to fold-up the 2nd bed ;) The section in the OKW studio where the table is, definitely has some roominess, compared to where the table is in the BWV imho.
We were able to fit a queen-size air mattress in an OKW studio-- something I'm not certain I'd be able to do as comfortably (if at all?) in a BWV studio. If you only have 2 people (which the OP does not) then I say the "true" studio set-up is the way to go----particularily if the two people sleep in the same bed. But I still have an issue with the comfort level of the pull-puts, and I mean this goes for any of OKW's sofa beds also. So if I were sharing a BWV studio with a friend, we'd be fighting over who gets the real bed & who gets the couch every night....:teeth:
But, the OP has 2 children, and I don't think kids mind these things as much as adults do. Her kids are 10 & 11 and most likely won't be bothered if the mattress just isn't as cushiony or whatever. What it comes down to , I think, is being close to Epcot and MGM in the OP's eyes, so I feel the extra room in OKW can be given up for BWV in this case. If they want to be able to walk to Epcot or whatever, I think they'll miss this at OKW.

I think what Caskbill meant was there is seating for 4 or even 5 in the studios with a sleeper sofa by utilizing the table w/2 chairs and the sofa, without anyone having to sit on the bed.
Since the table and 2 chairs are across from the sofa, there is also plenty of room to pull out the table and add the balcony chairs for additional seating in the studios at BWV, BCV &VWL. Then for additional seating these studios have the sofa which can seat 2-3 more people so technically at a studio with the sofa bed vs 2 beds you can have seating for 7 people if you utilize the balcony chairs, without anyone having to sit on a bed.
Personally if I need seating for that many people I do not stay in a studio, but that is how many people you could seat comfortably without using the bed.

I see the point you're making Deep and agree one really wouldn't need that many chairs when staying in a studio, but on the other hand, I know I still could easily fit a queen size air matress in the OKW studio and I highly doubt whether I would have been able to do that in the BWV studio we stayed in (brother and sister not going to sleep in the same bed). So, in my situation, I was actually talking about the fact that I felt there was more floor space at OKW (bigger bathroom aside).
But it still comes down to the fact that OP wants easy access to Epcot and MGM and for that, BWV can't be beat. ::yes::

I own at BWV but very often stay at OKW because it's less points and that means more trips! I also like the larger bathrooms.

Just curious but where did you put a queen size air mattress in a studio at OKW? Basically the bedroom/lr part of all the studios is laid out almost the same no matter which resort they are located at. It is a queen size bed, a night stand and then either another queen bed or a sofa with the table and chairs on the opposite wall. The dresser/tv is on the small side wall at OKW instead of the opposite wall but the space between the table & chairs and the hallway to the kitchenette and bathroom in an OKW studio would be pretty cramped for a queen size air mattress plus it would partially block the pathway to the kitchenette and bath.
I can not imagine putting a queen size air mattress in ANY DVC studio but I do not understand why if a queen size air mattress fit in an OKW studio it would not fit in a studio at BWV, etc. Actually BCW, etc studios have 2 fairly large open spaces in the sink/closet area and in the entryway that the OKW studio does not have, if someone would be so inclined to put an air mattress in these spaces.
Personally, if I needed an air mattress I would not be staying in a studio at any DVC resort. That would be way too up close and personal for me! LOL! :earseek:
