BWV Standard vs Preferred View

We've decided thanks to the assistance of everyone on these boards, to make our first DVC visit to be at BWV. In the interest of point conservation, I'd like to ask about someone's experience in a standard view room. Any tips on a building or room number to ask for? Or, should I just take a preferred view? I don't want to get stuck listening to cars screeching but don't mind not overlooking the boardwalk either...

Please share.
Many thanks!! :)

If your home resort is not BWV, you may have no chance at all of getting a standard view.

If it is BWV, you need to reserve very near the 11 month window.

From all the reports we have had here, there really are no bad locations. Many of the prefered views are not all that. The general opinion seems to be to get the standard if available,

"From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs", Karl Marx,This has failed every time it has been tried, why do we still have liberals?

Yes Rich is right if you cannot make ressies at the 11 month window standard is going to be pretty hard if not impossible to get. I called at the 11 month window for our trip in Dec of 01 and as I have most of my points in OKW, just a small amount in BWV, I could only get 4 of the 9 days at standard view...have to call back on May 9th at the 7 month window which if we get it we will be very lucky..DH & I stayed in a standard view for our Feb trip which they put us in a studio plus...I loved the room and not far from the elevators...its not worth the points (to me anyway) to get a preferred but sometimes thats all you can get...whichever way you go have a great time...Marianne

Haven't seen Std. View yet, but I will in December. I love the preferred view I got last time, but I would not use so many more points for the view unless I had no other choice (which was the case in my last trip). The rooms are the same and they are beautiful, and I am sure that a view of the BW entrance would be also very nice, even if considered standard.

Believe it or not,Richyams, I was able to reserve a standard view at the 7 month window for next month, May 6-10. (OKW is my home resort) I am so excited, have never been able to get the "cheaper" studio.

Just for your info, I called last Dec and was able to reserve this year's July 4th week in a standard. That's right at the 7 month window.
Real happy I saved the points at a great resort, BW.

I was on the waiting list for a standard view for the end of June...and I got it last week!

BWV 01 can't wait!

We have been able to get Standard View at BWV twice. The first time we were pretty near the elevators. Our view overlooked the arrival area. It was hot so we didn't spend much time on our balcony but when we did we were treated to the loud sounds of the Mears buses coming and going. The second time we were far from the elevators, but our "standard view" room overlooked a little pond and the parking lot, but the parking lot was in the distance. There was a "back stairway" near the room that lead down to exits to the parking area out one way and the quiet pool out the other way. I thought this room's location was great!

So, I would recommend requesting a room "down near the tennis courts" or "away from the elevator." Please be aware that it's a long walk down that hallway -- not a biggie for me but some have problems with it.

we had the stream view too I thought it was wonderful - we also have the one close to the evalators - mother gets lost easily, so this one was easier for her to find. also in the middle of the resort, so it was garden view - the noisy is not bad (too me) at any of this rooms.

We've stayed in both the preferred and standard views. Our preferred view (overlooking the quiet pool) was nice but so was the standard view (overlooking the front entrance). Click here to see pictures of each view (you'll need to scroll past some family shots and other resort pics).

In January we did manage to get a standard view 1 bedroom for this June, although I had to call on a fairly regular basis for a little over a month to get it. Even the CM was surprised when it showed up as available.

For our trip in late November/early December I called daily at the 11 month mark to make reservations for a standard 2 bedroom and a standard studio.

As for noise, it was an issue once when we were in the room overlooking the front entrance. A very loud group arriving at 2am woke me up, but it wasn't really a problem as I just rolled over and went right back to sleep. I'd much rather be closer to the elevator than down the end near the tennis courts so I guess the noise is a 'risk' we're willing to take.

One of these trips I would like to have a preferred view of the Boardwalk, but for now with the kids and my parents traveling with us we'll stick with the standard. Good luck making your reservations. :)

In Jan., I stayed in a standard view room and had a great balcony over-looking the front of the resort. (Lots of activity to watch.) I enjoyed it very much. Later during my vacation, I switched to a preferred view (had requested Boardwalk view) for what I thought would be a treat. Well, the balcony was one of those solid ones overlooking Luna Park. Since I'm short, I could barely see over it--it was up to my chin! When I sat down on the balcony, there was nothing but a wall. I decided there and then to book standard view rooms when possible. (If I'm going to use points on a "preferred view", I WANT to see something.) Next trip's ressies are made--standard view! :)

I've had the standard view at BWV a couple of times, and it's not my home resort...just lucky I guess!!!! The 2 times I stayed there, our room was on the front side of the building, overlooking the entrance, where it's lighted and says Boardwalk. I didn't mind it...it was interesting to sit on the balcony and watch the comings and goings in the morning before we went to the parks and in the evenings when we got home. I don't really believe in paying extra for views...I'm generally not in the room long enought to have the view make a huge difference! ;)

As usual, everyone has been terrific and very helpful. Sounds like standard will be just fine for us.
Now, cross your fingers that we can find something for September.... have to wait till Monday to call.

Thanks again!! :)
