BWV standard view studio: best/worst case? Should we WL a boardwalk view?

At 7 months, my mother was delighted to be able to book a garden/pool BWV studio for 4 nights in early december. Standard view was her first choice (since I had the impression that they were the most coveted, and not just for the point savings, and I told her that) -- so she wait listed it.

Well, the wait list came through :goodvibes, but now she's a little nervous about the view. My impression was that the standard view rooms didn't really have a crappier view than garden/pool at BWV, since there is no pure "parking lot" view. For those with experience at BWV, what's the best/worst case for a standard studio?

Should I wait list a boardwalk view for her?

It wouldn't hurt to waitlist a Boardwalk view if you thik you would enjoy it, but IMO, there is nothing wrong with the standard view rooms.

Some of the standard view rooms (the ones farther away from the elevators) have views of the higher level fireworks from IllumiNations).

If you can do stairs, all of the SV rooms have convenient access to the pools, the bus stop and the walkway to DHS, as well as the self-parking lots.

Most of the the standard view rooms overlook the entrance driveway. Some overlook the tennis courts and pond - these are the rooms that are the farthest from the elevator (and also the quietest, due to very little hallway traffic).

Some of the rooms close to the elevator may over look a portion of a rooftop. Sometimes people in this area report that the carts of Bell Services are nois, and very occasionally you have some type of delivery van that beeps.

The ME & DCL buses can sometimes be annoying - it's mostly the cruise buses, though. They occasionally seem to sit there forever. OTOH, this area has some pretty good people watching opportunities. :)

Overall, I prefer the SV to any other category at the BWV. I find the horns of the Friendship boats & the Boardwalk game bells more annoying than the buses. Worst of all are the noisy drunks that spill out from JellyRolls between 1 am and 2 am, LOL.

That said, we almost always ask and receive a room near the bus stop. Noise has never been a problem for us, but I wanted you to know about some of the reports others have made about the rooms closer to the elevators. Those rooms are a good idea if you are traveling with strollers, ECVs, wheelchairs or anyone for whom stairs are a problem.

Enjoy your stay - we're abandoning our beloved BWV this early December to give BLT a try. Hope I don't miss BWV too much, LOL.

Boardwalk view is great, but we LOVED our standard view. We had wonderful access to everything, could see Illuminations and had a great view.

Thanks for the detailed information and photos. Hmmm.. decisions, decisions. If they could get that view with a standard, it'd be a no brainer.

The only option for BWV when we went this past February was garden/pool view. We actually had a center courtyard view on the Boardwalk side. We still had great views of the Boardwalk and Beach Club and had a huge balcony. I wish I knew the room number as I would love to stay there again.

We also had a view at BWV near the canal and the main pool. Our view from the balcony was the back part of the roller coaster slide - not my favorite.

Good luck. I really enjoyed our time and rooms at BWV - we may actually buy into it one day through resale.

We experienced both the Standard view and the preferred garden view room on our trip last week. We started in standard room 2117 and that had a nice view similar to the photos above but maybe one floor down? We could see the fireworks and had a nice view of the lake.

We moved to a 2BR for Fri/Sat nights due to a late change in plans and moved to room 2019/2021. The view was worse, and was in a corner room on the opposide side of the pool. It was not a better view at all and we didnt' have any privacy on the balcony since we were facing right into other people's balconies. This view also cost us an extra 14 points for the 2 nights. Not worth it at all.

The only time I had a standard view, I was in a one bedroom facing the valet area. It was quite noisy, but I got to see the ABC Soap Stars coming and going as they were staying at the resort.

Now, that area is directly over where they store Magical Express luggage. I understand the noise can be extreme at all hours. I would specify a requested area, but understand that requests are just that - requests and may or may not be met.

If you can take a preferred or Boardwalk view, I always go for those..

In my opinion, the SV is not the best view at BWV. I think that the BW views are wonderful. The one downside I have read to BW view villas is that there may be some noise at night from revelers on the BW, but we have never been significantly bothered by such noise.

Hands down, if BW view and SV were the same points, I would choose BW view each time. However, sometimes we need to save points and choose the SV view.

I would choose SV over PV everytime I had the option. Although we have never stayed PV, I understand from these boards that the % of less than desirable PV rooms is higher than the % of less than desirable SV rooms. So playing the odds, SV is the better choice than PV.

That said, most people will not have a choice since about 80% of the rooms at BWV are PV. Your Mom was lucky to get her WL for a SV for early December. I called 11 months out to book beginning Dec 3 but there was no availability because I called 4 hours after MS opened.

But if she is not particularly sensitive to noise and doesn't mind spending the extra points, she should WL for the BW view.

Best of luck -- Suzanne

Thanks! This is precisely the sort of breakdown I was hoping for :) . Yes, she felt very lucky to get the garden/pool view.. she called each day at 8:55 starting on 7 months from about 12/3 or 12/5, and one day MS told her that it looked like she be able to get 4 sequential nights starting on the following AM if availability held until then. Fortunately it did!
