We are thinking of changing our ressie from VWL our home to Boardwalk for a stay in 2002. Ofcourse it's too early yet! But we are thinking about it.

I prefer VWL for the atmosphere. Thinking about BW cause we do want to go different places. It sounds like fun and we can walk to MGM & Epcot.

My question is about the room views. I read here where someone asked for Preferred and wasn't happy with what they got at the 11 mo. Should we save the points and just go with standard. Since this will be at the 7 mo anyway. And what's the difference between the two?

The main reason I'm not a BW fan is it's supposed to be like Atlantic City. Well I was born and raised in AC. I saw the high diving horse, ate salt water taffy, etc. Kinda like been there down that. Not only that I walked around going that's not right, that's not the way it was. LOL

Any advice on room views is greatly appreciated!

Obviously I can only speak for myself, but I prefer to save points by going with a standard view. Since standard views make up only about 20% of the total you may have a hard time getting one at the 7 month mark, but it's been done before. I even got a 1-bedroom standard view at the 6 month mark so never say never. :)

The standard views include rooms that look out on the front entrance, the parking lot and the tennis courts. We've overlooked the front entrance once and were very happy with that view. Noise was only an issue once. We've also had a room further down the hall, looking out toward the bus stop. This room was convenient in that we had easy access to the exits at the far end of the hall to get to the bus stop, quiet pool and walkway to MGM. We've never had a room overlooking the parking lot but I've read that it's not as bad as it sounds. Disney has some of the best looking parking lots around! ;)

The preferred views include pool, water and boardwalk views. Keep in mind that water view means the canal that runs between BW and MGM. Nothing spectacular but preferred nonetheless. Pool views include the quiet pool and Luna Park. Keep in mind again that there may be a tree near your balcony, or you could be on ground level which means a view of shrubs, lawn chairs and possibly the back of Leaping Horse Libations. Upper views could put you behind the Keister Coaster, or even over the 'big tent' of Leaping Horse. Boardwalk views include views of the courtyard (facing Boardwalk Inn) as well as those along the actual Boardwalk.

Since none of the views are guaranteed (beyond preferred and standard) it's a tossup if you're request will be honored. The rule of thumb seemed to be the earlier you made your request the better chance of having it fulfilled. I also read the post about the DVC member making a Boardwalk view request at the 11 month mark and not getting it, so I guess that rule of thumb can be tossed out the window. Like I said, I'd much rather save a few points (and maybe stay an extra day) rather than use them for a preferred view. Since we usually make our reservations right at the 11 month mark we haven't had a problem getting a standard view yet.

We had a 1BR standard view in June and we had actually a pretty nice view of the pond and the bridge to the parking lot (we were closer to the end of the bldg.) We also had a big tree shading the balcony.

I am one member who has never gotten the boardwalk view with reservations made at exactly 11 months out. Therefore, I would vote for saving points, if possible, and going for the standard view. I have never been disappointed with the standard view. As far as availability at the 7 month mark, you never know what is going to be available until you try. Just Monday, I was able to get a standard view 1 bedroom for the first weekend in November for my daughters. (They decided to go for Soaps weekend. ) I was shocked when the CM said "that is the only view available." I figured for sure I would have to fork over the extra points for a preferred - and it is a Friday and Saturday night to boot! Boy did I feel lucky. :D Good Luck!

I own at BW and work in Atlantic City and believe me, There is no comparison!!!
I have always went with the standard views. It makes sense on saving the extra point cost (to me) and the views I have had the past 3 visits have been very nice. On one trip I even had a boarwalk view without requesting one or being charged the extra points for it. Still I am very satisfied with the standard views!
