This year we are using another timeshare week to trade into BWV in a 2 bedroom. Because we aren't using points there is no choice in views. Does anyone know of a room that is not considered a boardwalk view but that might still have somewhat of a view that we could request? Last time we stayed we viewed Luna Park and the room was sort of depressing. I almost didn't go back. We don't care how far we have to walk from elevators or lobby. Just looking for some insight from a BWV regular.

the rooms overlooking the green below the back porch are not considered BWview. these are in the perfered pool and garden view group. Not sure if there are any 2 bedroom in this area. you can see the lake from these and the BW

The Village Green is a wonderful choice. However, I don't think you can get a 2 bedroom there. If not, I would suggest over the canal near community hall, or hey, it never hurts to ask for that beautiful Boardwalk view.

Before joining DVC we always had bad views. Our BW view on the last trip was wonderful.:cloud9:

There are no 2BRs overlooking the Village Green. You will likely get a preferred pool or garden view elsewhere (or possibly even standard view -- overlooking front of BW looking over the road going into valet and parking lot further away). As to the preferred pool/garden 2BRs most of them are around Luma Pool or around the quiet pool. You can possibly get lagoon vew looking at lagoon across to Swan/Dolphin. If you were very unhappy with Luna Park view, I am not sure any others are going to make you happy.

I've stayed at BWV a number of times on an exchange and in every case it was a standard view unit though we didn't make requests. Same for every other person I'm aware of that's stayed on an exchange. No harm in a request but don't get too hung up on view as you're unlikely to get much of anything in this situation.

At the resort I manage, we have rooms that are considered "stanndard non waterview" because there are obstructions blocking your view of the ocean (and you really can't sell them as waterview cuz people will complain). So what you get is a lower price room with some actual sneak peaks at the ocean. That was sort of what I was looking for at BWV. If there any standard rooms that can catch a glimpse of the direction of BCV or Epcot and maybe see some hint of fireworks or the boardwalk off in the distance? Rooms that only veterans of the property would know about. :thumbsup2 The view of Luna pool was fine (although the unit itself was tired) but been there done that. Just looking to request an alternate location so I feel like I'm somewhere new. (DH loves this location so I can't get him to stay somewhere else.)

The standard views are not of the Luna Park pool so it will be different. I admit that I have never stayed standard view before. But, I've seen great pictures on the DVC pictures thread that were standard view. The best ones are in a grassy area overlooking the bridge into BWV. Beware, I think they are really far from the elevators.

The DVC pictures thread is a sticky under Mouscellaneous. I think if you request away from the front entrance you may get one of these rooms. There are pictures of a standard 1 bedroom that is by far the greatest room at the Boardwalk Villas. There are even youtube videos made of it.

You may also want to request a high floor. Also, make yourself familiar with the location of the staircases.

Good Luck!

You can certainly make requests. BWV has 3 view types that are actually booking categories. These are Boardwalk view, preferred view and "standard" view. Standard is the parking lot and check in area, BW view is self explanatory, preferred is everything else and varies a fair amount. Preferred could be the canal, green spaces or either pool. Most timeshares rate view based on physical location and not necessarily the view from the specific unit itself. The best way to explain that is to think of a new oceanfront resort where the first one or two floors will lose their view as the landscaping matures. For such units with floating assignments, members learn pretty fast what to ask for and what to avoid as it sounds like you already have experienced. DVC will actually book a unit and give that to II. It appears that the resort will give the exchanger the same type of unit as was given to II most of the time. If you can figure out what unit type that was, you'll have a better idea of what to expect in terms of unit assignment but my info suggests that is usually SV. I've never tried to get that type info from the exchange side but if I were going to do so, I'd call MS and talk to the exchange dept. Using the DVC reservation # on the II confirmation I'd ask them what type of unit (view) was deposited and if that didn't work, I'd ask them how many points the original reservation was. If I didn't get the info, I'd try again on a couple of different days.

For an exchange I'd expect the standard view and hope you get the obstructed pool view. I've seen EPCOT fireworks from SV units but it's better to be farther around and on a higher floor. exchangers tend to get lower floors as well from my experience. Fortunately there isn't as much difference between the DVC units compared to some timeshares like Lawaii Beach Club for example or worse, some of the MX resorts that put you in an inferior sister resort across the street or next door.

Thanks Dean! That's exactly the info. I needed. Sounds like you know your stuff. Wish we had you working at our Resort:thumbsup2

Glad to help. I'm curious as to which resort, email me privately if you like.

I've always advocated one get the info on a given exchange including how they do unit assignments prior to getting stuck with something. The unit assignments are one of the areas where I've recommended people explore because a resort is only as good as what you personally see and experience. I'm the first to say that owners should have priority but as an exchanger you deserve to know where you stand. In some cases, the choices are simply unacceptable especially when you're trading something you could easily rent for $$$ such as DVC though there are many other examples such as the HH summer Marriott's that I own. Fortunately with most resorts the variation is not great enough to be an issue and I feel that's very true with all DVC resorts and to a degree, all resorts I've stayed at. I do know of some resorts that I would not list as an exchange option due to their unit assignments, I mentioned two of them above.
