We are looking to buy an additional 210 points to add to our existing BWV Oct use year points. My question is, how important is it to have the same use year? We usually visit in October & have never had a problem booking the room we want in our home resort, but am I inviting trouble by settling for another use year? What about a month either side of this year? The more I think about it, the more my head feels like it will explode!!!

I would appreciate any input,

Thanks in advance,

Sallie

Though it is much easier to have all your contracts with the same use year, it is not essential. Remember that your use year only really affects your banking deadlines as well as how long you might have to use points should you need to cancel.

Hi, Sallie,
Use year could also affect when you make a ressie. If you have an Oct. use year, your points are not current year points until that month. If you want an Oct. ressie at 11 months you can call in Nov, but would be borrowing points if your add-on contract was Dec. While it is totally possible to have different use years, my pea-brain likes having a single use year. Simple is good.
P.S. We also have BWV, Oct. use year and have managed to get 4 add-ons in the same use year, all with some banked points. Good luck!

Thanks for the replies, guys, it's more reassuring when you speak to others who have tried & tested the "water", so to speak!

Jekjones, did you buy your add-ons from DVC or another realtor?
It's the first time I've been able to convince my DH to purchase add-ons & because the exchange rate is so good for us at the moment (we're from the UK) I wanted to do one big add-on (around 200-300) rather than lots of little ones over a period of time.

I've been checking the timeshare link at the top of the page but the likelihood of what we need coming up seems pretty slim??

Thanks again,
Sallie

Sallie,
We have added on through Disney and by resale. Resale takes a bit longer but can be cheaper if you get banked points and a good price. Both processes worked fine for us. Call the major 3 resellers and let them know what you want. Timeshare Store has the biggest inventory, but you never know which of the realtors will get a contract that meets your needs. I have sent you an e-mail with more details. Best of luck to you in your decision and search.

Besides TTS & the one that's banned, who's the 3rd reseller?

I think you would be OK with a use year before October but not too much after. For example, if you had an August or September use year and you had to cancel, you would still have almost a year to use them or bank. However, with a December use year, those points will be close to expiration if you had to cancel.

I can think of four from the standpoint of this board. TTS, Jaki, ******** and Reids. But there are many more companies out there and some get quite a few DVC resales as well.

Jaki at www.atimeshare.com. Dean is correct that there are many other people out there selling DVC contracts, everyone from real estate agents to private parties to eBay (in fact, we purchased our VWL contract on eBay although the auction was through a real estate agent rather than the actual seller).
