BWV...Request or leave it to chance?

We have a 1BR Pool/Garden view room and my parents/sister have a 2BR standard view reserved. Our reservations are listed as "travelling with" so we are hoping to be across the hall from each other. My dad would prefer to be close to the elevator and on a higher floor so if I add any requests, I would add them to both reservations. I'm concerned that adding location requests will "override" our chances of getting rooms close together. Our number one request is to be near each other, which I assume is covered by the "travelling with" designation.

Should I add a request, or just leave it alone?
Thanks!

I have heard that if you request "close to elevator" with a standard view at BWV, you run the risk of being assigned a villa that overlooks the noisy luggage area by the lobby. We stay at BWV a couple times per year, most of the time in standard view villas. I never request close to elevator for that very reason. We prefer to be away from the elevator and use the back stairs to make the walk to HS much shorter.

We just took a couple of friends to BWV in March. We had 2 studios with boardwalk view and made the "traveling with" notation with member services. We ended up with studios right next to each other, so they can put you close together!

In Feb I was traveling with another party and went back and forth with the same question. I ended up adding a request and the room assignor couldn't have done better. For the first night I was in a pool/garden room and the other party in a boardwalk view studio and then because I had a waitlist come thru I had the rest of the nights in a boardwalk view 1BR. I had them note the traveling with and then request to be down towards Jelly rolls, high floor, since we were attending a conference at the Swan/Dolphin. All 3 rooms were on the 5th floor and only one room in between. So, in my case it worked out, but of course that's not to say it always will. I know many say they don't get requests filled at BWV but we have been very lucky there. Wish I'd have the same luck at some other resorts!

I was able to do just this 2 weeks ago through Touring Plans. I had 3 studios booked at BW, 2 standard, 1 garden/pool view. I requested upper floor near elevator and the 2 standard were not directly across, but maybe 3 room down and across from the pool view. We where on the 4th floor and it was the shortest walk we ever had to the elevators. I was also told to call the resort about a week before arrival with your location requests. Good luck, of all the resorts, I have had the best luck with room requests at BWV!!

What time will you each arrive? They try so hard to assign rooms as available in order of arrival now that I see requests are often overlooked in favor of getting you into a room. We arrived at SS last week with the same situation - two families each in Studios. I requested near each other, in The Grandstand 8100 or 8500 buildings, first floor. We each got room ready notices as we were on the DME bus at 10:30am.... at the farthest points of Paddock and Carousel respectively. I went to the front desk and politely asked if we were willing to wait longer, could our requests be a closer match?

They went to work on it for us. They found two rooms in the 8500 building, first floor, and upgraded us both to 1 bedroom villas, and both were ready less than an hour later. So if you arrive early enough, go to the front desk, and say you are willing to wait if there is a better location available later! And don't go to the first room at all, or they can't do it.

Obviously this worked out way better than I could hope, but I would have been happy for 2 studios on the 3rd floor anywhere near each other and happily waited until 4pm Since we were headed to Disney Springs for Dinner. And it's really rare to get upgraded... first time in 20 years with DVC!

Well...

My family of 4 is flying in LATE (landing at 11pm) Friday night and staying at the Hyatt at the airport. We will take DME over the next day, whenever I can drag everyone out of bed. The rest of the family is flying in on Saturday, landing at MCO at 3pm and taking DME to BWV. I imagine that my family will arrive sometime around noon. We are planning to meander around Epcot while we wait for everyone else to arrive. They are planning to arrive, hopefully drop off their bags in their room, and then we are all heading to Disney Springs for dinner (they don't have park tickets for Saturday).

Since we will arrive before them, will we be able to inquire if our rooms are close together when we check in? If not, hopefully they will be able to work it out before they arrive.

In my BWV experience I mentioned above I was already at WDW before checking into the P/G view room and listed I'd arrive around 11:30am and the other room was arriving at 5:30. Our requests were met. And when I switched rooms I went to the desk and check in before 8am and the room was already assigned and meeting my requests. I believe I got the text that it was ready around 1-1:30pm. Really I don't know if there's any great rhyme or reason to the room assignments.

Yes. It is best if each reservation mentions you are traveling together but not essential. Knowing the name of the other party on the reservation was enough to get the process started for me. The others arrived a half hour after we did.
