Did you ever go and just not really have a good time at all??

This was our experience due not to DVC but to both our DS having the flu , like IN BED, the entire time!!

We stayed in a studio this time. ( for the first time, before we did the 1-bedroom) I must say , I was surprised that I liked the studio just fine for us this trip!! The little mini-kitchen was okay for the short stay. Although the washer etc would have been better to have this trip due to sick kids!!

We also were delighted that even though we didn't check in till 9 p.m. and didn't have any location requested--we got room 4062 which was only 3 away from the elevators!!! Last time our 1-bedroom was down the long.........hallways!! This didn't make going to the laundry so bad.

Also wanted to mention that housekeeping was wonderful on our check-out day. I went to the front desk to ask if there was anyway to stay in the room past 11 am. The CM said no of coarse that the villas side didn't offer late check out AT ALL. Then she made a call to HK for me. I got on the phone and the answer again was no. I explained that I had 2 children very sick with the flu ( I'm talking bed-bound) and she put me on hold to her manager and was able to let me stay in the room till 1. This two hour difference was a lifesaver for us!! Our pick -up for the airport was at 2 so it was only an hour out of the room. ( i did leave her a good tip.)

Over all the trip was terrible due to the kids being sick. But a bad day at WDW is better than a good day at home right?? Although it was a waste of a lot of money in my opinion. We did manage to get out a little...very little. My husband and I basically did everything separate..one staying back at the room with the sickies. I did enjoy the decorations and I did get to MVMCP on tues with my older son only. I enjoyed it , but he was really too sick to be out. The fireworks were incredible!!

Well...at least with DVC theres always ....next time!!

I'm really sorry that your sons were sick your entire vacation. It's bad enough to have sick kids at home. That was nice that you did get to stay in your room for an extra couple of hours.

I hope that your next vacation is twice as magical!

We had a mini vacation a few years ago. One daughter was sick with stomach flu the whole time, and the rest of us each had it a day or two. Not fun and very frustrating. Thankfully we've been healthy our last few visits!

I feel so bad for the kids. But, like you say at least DVC let's us know there will be a "next time" for sure. Sounds a lot like the family Christmas trip I planned all year that fell apart as one after another my brother's family dropped like flies and spent a lot of time in their studio. :(

Too bad your sons were sick. Your next vacation will hopefully make up for this one. Have fun planning.:)

I was glad to read that you did not mind the studio for a shorter trip. I have booked a one-bedroom for my longer May trip, but am trying a studio for a shorter trip next November.

I am SO very sorry! Sick kids are always such a shame (and such stress/worry on their parents!) And even worse that they missed the joys of the WDWorld!

THis does have me thinking, though, because I've now read quite a few of these posts (i.e. trips recently ruined by illness, often more than one person in party). If I were headed down to WDW with kids in tow, granted, I can't do anything about any germs they might have already picked up along the way. BUt I wonder -- if mousekeeping knows a room to have been flu-bound, do they take any added cleaning measures? If you're headed down to WDW (esp. during a flu season like this!) I wonder if it behooves you at all (especially if you have young children) to take along Clorox wipes or some such thing and wipe the place down
(doorknobs, phones. surfaces, etc.) and air the joint out, if possible? I hear about all the stuff school classrooms are doing -- I would imagine it wouldn't hurt a villa to be that cautious, just so you don't add any other new germs to whatever you brought with you!

I'm really not a germ freak -- but I am a WDW lover and feel sick right now that you had to miss so much of your vacation due to illness! What a shame!

On the advice of our pedi's. we lysoled everything upon entering the room. Light switches, remote controls every handle switch etc.... We also washed the sheets in our 1 bedroom in very hot water. Just to be safe. we also used hand gel constantly. thank fully we did not get sick.

FYI.. as to housekeeping I was told by them directly, to please always tell them if you encounter sickness , so that appropriate precautions could be taken. As she said to me not only for the benefit of other guests, but for herself as she doesn't want to take anything home to her kids either!::yes::
